^^ But do you remember when they taught us to capitalize proper nouns? Be a grammar natzi or nothing, nothing is more cowardly than a fence sitter.

natzi

that's a proper noun

and you spelled it wrong

i was just pointing out that you misspelled roger clemens' name

anyone who can't spell clemens, the name of the best pitcher of the past 20 years, has no fucking idea what they're talking about

please come to baseball tryouts and well put you in the box, throw ~90 at you, and we shall see who the pussy is

I think Ozzie made a mistake having a rookie throw at him. Bring in someone out of the pen to do it. Despite what anyone says, if you do not throw back at a team that shit will continue to happen until someone gets hurt...usually a bench clearning brawl is actually good, beter punches than a ball hitting your head

I say the kid got a tough break. Its sad but when your coach tells you to do something you do it. He is 26 a year old and trying to make it in the majors. You do as you are told. Ozzie Told him to hit a guy not hit the guy in the head. I have been hit by a 90+mph fastball. It leaves a mark and it stings but you walk to first and keep playing. If you are a pitcher you want to protect your teamates. The best way to do that is to plunk the guy in the back send him to first and strike out the next guy. If you can't do as your told you don't get to play with the big boys. If Ozzie tells a guy to bunt and he swings away doesn't he get yelled at.

That's completely different.

Say the pitcher hit the guy in the face with a 97mph fast ball? Maybe he knocks the guy out, maybe he ends his career. I don't mind pitchers hitting a batter if they need to, but in this case the manager was completely out of line. I have no problem with the manager telling the pitcher that the batter needs to be hit, but sending him to the minors for not hitting the guy?

i still want motherfucking packboozie to explain why he didn't like Ozzie as a player.

^ how many times do we need to explain that he was yelled at for not hitting Blalock, he was demoted because the Sox made a trade for another pitcher and they needed to open up a roster spot.

VERT Ozzie said hit him not bean him in the head. Thats two completly different things. If you pitch in the majors and you can't hit a guy in the leg arm or chest then you shouldn't pitch. It is fine to hit a guy in the back. Head hunting is wrong and people get seriously hurt that way. But being hit in the leg or back is fine.

Because of his attitude and the way he was. He had a cocky apperance to me.

I just plain don't like him. I never have. I really cannot explain why.

he wasn't rated at all. he was one hell of a teammate and a great role player.

he was never talked about as one of the greats. he was on the top-tier of SS during the '80s and early '90s, but never talked about as a future HOF'er.

overrated?!?!?!

YOU DON'T HIT PLAYERS IN BASKETBALL. LET ME EXPLAIN... SEE, IN BASEBALL THE DEFENSE CONTROLS THE BALL AND "DELIVERS" IT TO THE OFFENSE. THIS IS VERY UNIQUE AS FAR AS SPORTS GO. ANYWAY, WHEREAS IN BASKETBALL A GUY SHOVING ANOTHER GUY IS SEEMINGLY VERY RANDOM, IN BASEBALL WHEN A PITCHER BEANS ANOTHER PLAYER IN A FASHION OF INTENTION IT IS VERY DELIBERATE AND VERY UNDERSTOOD. DOES THIS HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THINGS A LITTLE BIT BETTER YOU FUCKING IDIOT? MAYBE IF YOU DIDN'T TYPE LIKE A THIRD GRADER PEOPLE WOULD THINK HIGHER OF YOU.

Maybe you don't understand... the example initially offered was about deliberate and very understood delivery of a message. Hard intentional fouls are committed very regularly, especially on breakaways.
Deliberate acts that can cause injury are called upon in all sports (cheap shots on QB's, goons sent after stars in hockey, etc). Don't be pretentious enough to think that baseball is unique in this regard. To say that they are "uncomparable" simply because the flow of action is different is simply naive.

Todd Bertuzzi didn't want to hurt Steve Moore, Warren Sapp didn't want to hurt Chad Clifton, and Nehemiah Ingram didn't want to hurt John Bryant either, but each of those situations are an aggressive act that can cause someone to get seriously hurt.

They happen all the time, man. It's an intentional foul because they can't get to the ball, so if they don't go at the body with some force, it's just "and 1" instead of "two shots".

They happen about as often as intentionally hitting a batter.

I'm not talking about slap fouls... I'm talking about arm around the neck, getting thrown down, elbows to the face, overzealous blind screen, punching in the nads, etc. In the heart of NBA or college basketball season you can expect to see highlights of them fairly regularly. Heck, its happened quite a bit in the playoffs so far and towards the end of the ACC this year it seemed like you had atleast one flagrant intentional foul in every game. Its usually the subsequent shove/shout match that gets all the attention in the NBA but it definitely is not rare.

First of all, let me say that I love the game of baseball. The problem is that I hate the majority of the players. They are a bunch of immature pussies. If a guy hits a home run or talks shit to you, you back it up with your game, not bean him with the ball. If a guy is getting owned in basketball he takes it like a man, steps his game up another level, or sits the bench. In football, if your man is beating you every play, you get taken out of the game. It just comes down to a bunch of overpaid, whining, immature, assholes, that can't accept getting beat just one time in a sport where as a pitcher you win more than %70 of the time.

All you people are fucking stupid. He didn't do his job, so he lost it. He wasn't told to hit the dude in the head, just to hit him. It's part of the game and required of a major league pitcher.

Please don't bring your ignorance of the NBA into this thread about baseball. There have been ~ 5 suspensions this playoffs for flagrant fouls. One of which was for the throwing of a mouthpiece at a ref. The latest was for Stackhouse fouling Shack, and everyone knows that is BS. Hard fouls are part of the game, and required in many instances.

And while we are on the subject, I've watched a little of the World Cup this week, and I think the refs there are way too card happy as well.

Sports are physical. Man up or get the fuck off the playing surface.

Carry on.
