This is old. We found this stuff at the beginning of the war. We kept finding it in a steady stream. They just went back and counted how much they found up until now.
They're the degraded weapons we sold to Saddam in the 80s. They have a shelf-life of about two years.
Where are the munitions plants? Where are the WMDs?
Obviously the factories were mobile, and disassembled and smuggled into Iran, along with the nukes and nerve agents Iraq was constructing. We should invade Iran! And then Syria, when they move them there!

Technically, this is anti-Reagan. But Tree-Twista only knows one president's name, so he'll say it's anti-Bush somehow, and dismiss it.

How can you expect to argue intelligently about something you obviously haven't adequately prepared to discuss?
The UN inspectors did find the pre-1991 defunct WMDs, and they also oversaw and documented the destruction of many tons of other warheads between 1991 and 1998. Nobody is over there looking for just any WMD; that's just the soundbite that was put on repeat before the war.
The fact of the matter is that we and the UN are and were looking for PREVIOUSLY UNDOCUMENTED WMDs that the US and UN inspectors weren't already aware of.6/22/2006 4:19:20 PM |

Quote : | "Iraq chemical weapons too old to use: US intelligence officials
Jun 22 3:12 PM US/Eastern Email this story
The chemical weapons that have been recovered by US forces in Iraq were all made before the 1991 Gulf War and were too degraded for their intended use, US intelligence officials said.
Republican lawmakers have cast the disclosure that about 500 chemical weapons have been found in Iraq as evidence that Saddam Hussein had a stockpile of the weapons before the March 2003 US invasion of Iraq.
But the intelligence officials, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity, said the weapons were too degraded to have posed a threat to US forces in March 2003.
They said all chemical weapons found since 2003 were produced before the 1991 Gulf War and they had no evidence Saddam was producing or stockpiling chemical weapons after that.
"Generally they are in poor condition," one official said.
"We assess that they are not in condition to be used as designed. And detailed analysis of the toxic agents shows they are degraded and represent a much lower hazard," he said.
The munitions have been tested and computer simulation models created to determine what effect they might have under a variety of scenarios, the officials said.
Although not suitable for their intended purposed, the officials said such weapons remain a potential hazard if obtained by insurgents and modified in ways they would not discuss.
The officials, however, said they had no evidence that any element of the Iraqi insurgency has possession of chemical weapons.
"I would simply say we have seen a degree of improvisation on the part of the insurgency with regard to conventional munitions," said an official.
"They might apply that same degree of improvisation if in fact they came in contact with these types of munitions. And again we have no evidence that they have," the official said.
The weapons were found "in small numbers over time" since 2003, an official said. They were recovered in one, two or three at a time -- not in large caches, the officials said.
"We would characterize these recovered munitions as being consistent with weapons that have been not maintained, that have not been part of an organized inventory," he said.
Senator Rick Santorum and Representative Peter Hoekstra, both Republicans, on Wednesday made public information from a classified report prepared in April on the subject by the National Ground Intelligence Center that said 500 chemical weapons have been recovered.
The intelligence officials said "key points" from the report were declassified at the request of Hoekstra, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee.
The "key points," however, ommitted the fact that the 500 weapons all were of a pre-1991 vintage. The officials indicated that the age of the weapons was not considered classified but were unable to explain why it was not included in the key points given to the senators. " |

We went to war for a number of reasons...about 19 different reasons if I recall...ONE of those reasons was the threat of Saddam's regime having WMDs...my comment about "now the war is about tax money" was in response to someone, upon hearing that we DID find WMDs, claiming their problem with the war was the tax money they have had to pay...There have been tons and tons of people complaining about the Iraq war and up until a few days ago most of their biggest complaints were that "Bush said Saddam had WMDs, we didnt find WMDs, therefore the war is unjust"...yet when it comes out that we did find WMDs, the "where are the WMDs" argument doesnt work anymore, so they come up with a new talking point, like how they dont like the tax money spent on the war...because they cant make the "Where are the supposed WMDs" argument because we found WMDs...watch the next poster say that depleted mustard and sarin gas is completely harmless...why do I even bother arguing with you pacifist hypocrites6/23/2006 10:28:26 AM |

I'm confused here. Is there something else you could call them? I mean, it wasn't like the inspectors in 2003 were from a different organization or anything. It was exactly the same team.

Sigh. I'm fiscally conservative. What about that is hard for you to understand?
The only person that says "LIBERALSSSSSSS " is a person who doesn't understand a fucking thing about politics. You can be conservative or liberal on social or fiscal issues. Some people are liberal on both, but to just label people who don't agree with you as liberal hippies who hate Bush no matter what? Maybe some of us actually don't agree with most stuff he does. There are plenty of reasons for the fiscally conservative to dislike him, and many more for the social liberal.
Every post of yours is a lame strawman. Every. Single. Post.
I've never met you, and I don't think I'd ever want to meet you. Seeing as you cannot form a cogent, relevent argument when you have all the time in the world to think out and type a post, I'm not confident you could hold decent conversation.

The problem with TreeTwistah is that he doesn't really understand anything he argues about and takes opposing viewpoints as personal potshots. In this thread, at two people explained that those "WMD's" found posed no real danger to the US, one citing an article and yet TreeTwista is all like "WMD FOUND!"
Why? Because he associates WMD with "bad" and the droning soundbites from 2002 are burned in the back of his mind. Nevermind the fact that those Cold War era weapons probably couldn't exterminate the rat infestation at Bragaw , the mere fact that they were labeled as WMD's is enough to set TreeTwistah off on a "im right, we're right!" crusade.
Our trolling of you, tree, isn't intended to educate you or change your mind. You're pretty much hopeless when it comes to holding a logical debate. Rather, our trolling of you is intended for people who aren't as stubborn as you. 6/23/2006 11:28:08 AM |

no, i dont have any mustard gas or sarin gas under my sink
but i guess you interpret something thats "too degraded for its intended use" as automatically becoming safe? here's where the US Govt disagrees strongly with you, from the same PDF report:
Quote : | "Pre-Gulf War Iraqi chemical weapons could be sold on the black market. Use of these weapons by terrorists or insurgent groups would have implications for Coalition forces in Iraq. The possibility of use outside Iraq cannot be ruled out.
The most likely munitions remaining are sarin and mustard-filled projectiles.
The purity of the agent inside the munitions depends on many factors, including the manufacturing process, potential additives, and environmental storage conditions. While agents degrade over time, chemical warfare agents remain hazardous and potentially lethal.
It has been reported in open press that unsurgents and Iraqi groups desire to acquire and use chemical weapons." |

Although not suitable for their intended purposed, the officials said such weapons remain a potential hazard if obtained by insurgents and modified in ways they would not discuss.
The officials, however, said they had no evidence that any element of the Iraqi insurgency has possession of chemical weapons. " |

^^You need to get out of this section.
People like you seriously have no place here.
You have no capability to reason at all, if I were to go through and point out each logical disconnect you've had even in the last post, I'd be wasting my time more than I already am.
You fail the soap box. You just aren't smart enough. That's pretty sad. You really oughta leave.

IS IT A WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION? Answer that question. You keep wavering about all over the argument. We have contended for many posts now that they aren't mass destruction capable. Did you even read those posts? Where in the shit you just posted...
shit, I see that jwb mostly just covered it. 6/23/2006 12:26:06 PM |
