Updated: July 25, 2006, 3:40 PM ET Marion, Morrison, Ridnour left off national team
Quote : | "LAS VEGAS -- Shawn Marion, Adam Morrison and Luke Ridnour were left off the U.S. national team's roster Tuesday before its trip to Asia for the world championships next month.
Amare Stoudemire and Kirk Hinrich were the only moderately surprising inclusions on the 15-man roster, which will play five warmup games in Las Vegas, China and Korea before opening the world championships in Japan on Aug. 19.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff must trim the roster to 12 players before the world championships.
Marion, the Phoenix Suns' three-time NBA All-Star, apparently was left off the roster because of a minor knee injury. He was just one of five candidates remaining from the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, which won a disappointing bronze medal.
Hinrich, the Chicago Bulls point guard, beat out Ridnour for the ostensible third-string spot behind Chris Paul and Gilbert Arenas. Hinrich was slowed by a hamstring injury during the team's weeklong training camp in Las Vegas, but apparently did enough to impress Krzyzewski.
Stoudemire earned a spot on the traveling team with a remarkable comeback from surgery on both knees during last season with the Suns, when he played in three NBA games. The 6-foot-10 forward looked strong and mobile during training camp despite struggling during summer-league play a few weeks ago.
The rest of the 15-man roster includes LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Shane Battier, Chris Bosh, Bruce Bowen, Elton Brand, Dwight Howard, Antawn Jamison, Joe Johnson, Brad Miller, Arenas and Paul.
In all, 25 players have committed to be members of the U.S. national team for the next three years, through the 2008 Olympics in Beijing." |

My guess would be that Stoudamire and Jamison are left off the team...
Then i think its down to either Battier or Brad Miller...
K doesnt wanna leave off Battier but i think the assistants might persuade him to carry an extra big man... 7/25/2006 4:09:36 PM |

Bobcats Sophomores Putting In Extra Work
Raymond Felton, Sean May and Kevin Burleson have spent this summer working to improve their games as they enter their sophomore seasons in the NBA. While other second-year players may be spending their first NBA offseason relaxing or vacationing prior to training camps opening, this Bobcats trio has spent the summer honing their skills. After participating in the Bobcats summer camp and Orlando Summer League in July, Felton, May and Burleson headed to Tim Grgurich's camp in Las Vegas on Monday, July 31, to get in even more work as training camp draws closer.
Grgurich’s camp is slightly different than other summer camps in that it is strictly about basketball – there are no media, no agents and no general managers in attendance. The players don’t have to worry about who is watching, who they have to impress or be concerned about wins and losses. All they are worrying about is improving as a basketball player, and veteran players like Jermaine O’Neal, Eric Snow and Donyell Marshall in attendance work diligently with the young players trying to help them improve their games.
The camp draws over 60 NBA basketball players, who are given the opportunity to see different defensive and offensive systems from around the league, with approximately 18 NBA teams represented. There is individual work and group work in structured two-a-days, and for young players like Felton, May and Burleson, it is an opportunity to get even more experience against NBA players and give them a boost heading into training camp.
All three Bobcats players gave a strong showing in camp and earned rave reviews.
Felton was considered by many to probably be the best point guard in camp, impressing coaches from around the league with not just his scoring touch, but his ability to lead and make his teammates better. After finishing his rookie season strong in 2005-06, Felton has continued to show that he’s got the swagger and confidence now that can make good players great, and all his tools are magnified. With more confidence entering his second season, it is starting to become obvious that Felton is looking to take his game to the next level.
May also continued to play well in camp, but perhaps even more importantly, it was good to see him back 100 percent from the ankle injury he suffered on the last day of the Orlando Summer League. He was running up and down the court, making his jump shots and using his post moves effectively and seems ready to show what he can do after missing a chunk of time last season due to injuries.
Of the three, the Bobcats player that probably showed the most improvement as the week went along was Burleson. He seems to be starting to figure out how he can make himself a quality backup point guard in this league and is starting to make the simple plays. It’s good for him to get this opportunity as often as he can to play against this caliber of players – guys like Deron Williams, Rajon Rondo and Felton. He had the opportunity to gain some experience against that caliber of players. 8/7/2006 10:36:18 AM |

The bobcats are still about $9 million under the minumum salary cap.
Im really curious as to what we're going to do with that $9 million because there isn't really shit left on the FA market.
Hopefully just overpay some guys for some one year deals or something because i dont wanna lock any shitty players up to 4-5 year deals. 8/7/2006 6:00:59 PM |

what the thing i read said was that whatever they are under ($9 million, or whatever is eventually left) is split up among the players, so they basically get a bonus. 8/7/2006 6:04:49 PM |

ok ok , I know I am in the minority with this point of view, but Jeffries played great in the playoffs, especially with his defense on LeBron James.
He is a great Perimeter defender, something that the Knicks desperately need considering thier point and SG are both less than 6'4''.
He overpayed, but they are in the same division and had to put an offer on the table that the Wizards couldnt match. Jeffries is very young and has good potential on offense, but make no mistake, this move was made strictly for defensive purposes. 8/8/2006 12:38:40 PM |

Quote : | "2. Vince Carter (p) The Nets could give him a three-year extension for the maximum this summer, but neither side seems to be in any hurry to get it done. The delay is stoking fears that Carter will hit the market a year from now and return to North Carolina to play for the Bobcats, who will be flush with cap space.
4. Gerald Wallace (p) The league's most underrated player, Wallace virtually was ignored as a free agent a year ago. Don't count on NBA GMs to repeat that mistake. With a strong 2006-07, the scandalously underpaid forward should finally get his due.
8. Antawn Jamison (p) Jamison is in a position similar to Bibby's, except with only one year between his opt-out and the end of the contract. He's due to make the maximum in 2007-08, and without a strong campaign this year will fall far short of that in free agency. On the other hand, he could see next summer as his last shot for a big long-term deal and opt out anyway.
16. Primoz Brezec (p) Another foreign import on a bargain contract, the 7-2 Brezec had to look approvingly at the deals Joel Przybilla and Nazr Mohammed got this summer. And unlike those two, Brezec can score. " |
Personally, I think the Nets will pay VC because they need him for their move to Brooklyn. And I think we'll resign GWallace. I dont really expect us to match what Brezec is offered. It doesnt say anything about the Bobcats chance of landing Jamison, but he seems like someone we'd pursue due to the UNC connection and positionally we could use him.8/8/2006 12:48:06 PM |

Quote : | "Argentina's Herrmann looking to sign with Charlotte
By JIM ARMSTRONG AP Sports Writer SENDAI, Japan - Forward Walter Herrmann is close to signing a deal with the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats, the Argentina player said Tuesday at the world basketball championship.
Herrmann, who has 48 points in Argentina's last two wins here, said he hopes to ink a one-year deal before the end of the Aug. 19-Sept. 3 world championship.
"I hope to get it done before the end of this," Herrmann said ahead of Argentina's practice on Tuesday. "They'll give me a physical sometime soon, and the deal will be finalized after that."
Bobcats coach and general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said they are working on getting a physical completed in Asia.
"We have an agreement in principle," Bickerstaff said. "We are working out the logistics."
Herrmann, who plays in the Spanish league, scored 25 points as Argentina beat Venezuela 96-54 on Monday to improve to 3-0. A day earlier, he had 23 points in a 107-72 win over Lebanon.
"We knew he can score," Bickerstaff said. "He's been playing very well."
With Chicago Bulls forward Andres Nocioni seeing limited playing time because of a sore ankle, Herrmann has seized the opportunity to showcase his talent.
"It feels great and I've gained a lot of confidence here," said Herrmann. "I've had a lot of minutes in these games, being successful shooting the ball and having a hot hand has really helped."
Herrmann played for Charlotte this season in the Orlando Summer League. He said his experience there and in the Spanish leagues should prepare him for a career in the NBA.
"Every player who comes to play in Spain says it's the toughest league in Europe," said Herrmann.
The big forward is an example of the depth of Argentina's squad. Few teams in the tournament have players like Herrmann who can come off the bench and score 48 points in two games.
Herrmann said the key to success here for the Athens Olympic champions will be playing tough defense.
"If we play together as a team and play tough defense we have as good a chance of winning it as anybody," said Herrmann.
Signing Herrmann would give the Bobcats 15 players under contract for next season. " |

Quote : | "Bobcats sign 6-9 Herrmann Argentine forward expected to provide shooting, offense
The Charlotte Bobcats made it official Monday, signing Argentine forward Walter Herrmann for the upcoming season.
Herrmann, 6-foot-9, can play either forward position and has been in the team's plans for several weeks. Formally signing a contract took a while because he was playing in the World Championships in Japan and needed a physical before signing.
Herrmann played professionally the past nine seasons in Argentina and Spain. He led the Spanish League in scoring during the 2002-03 season, averaging 22.2 points for Fuenlabrada.
He played a game with the Bobcats' summer-league team. Coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff likes Herrmann's shooting and ability to create offense in half-court situations. Those were weaknesses, particularly late in games, for the Bobcats last season. -- Rick Bonnell
Around the league
ORLANDO: J.J. Redick pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges in Durham and received a one-year sentence of unsupervised probation.
A former Duke star, he also received a 60-day suspended license in North Carolina, $410 in fees and court costs and must perform 24 hours of community service, according to Candy Clark, administrative assistant to District Attorney Mike Nifong.
District Court Judge Richard Chaney agreed to allow Redick, a first-round draft pick of the Magic, to serve his community service in Florida. Redick was last season's Associated Press Player of the Year." |

Quote : | "Q: Which one of the Bottom 10 teams (Blazers, Knicks, Hawks, Wolves, Bobcats, Warriors, Raptors, Rockets, Celtics, Sonics) can win a championship in the next couple of years?
Chris Sheridan, ESPN Insider: First of all, this is somewhat of a loaded question. Any answer invites ridicule. You want a CHAMPIONSHIP out of one of these dregs, not just a conference finals appearance? The Rockets are easily the closest, so I'll exclude them and take a chance on one of the others … the Bobcats.
A year from now, they could have a starting front line of Emeka Okafor, Adam Morrison and Gerald Wallace or Walter Herrmann with a backcourt of Ray Felton and Vince Carter … only, of course, if Carter decides to hit the road when he can become a free agent at the end of next season.
Charlotte will be one of the few teams (Orlando is a big other) with the cap room to lure him away from the Nets. We've already seen how good of a player Felton can be, and point guards usually don't even come close to peaking until after their third year.
Obviously another major piece is needed here (and no, I'm not going to take the easy way out and say Michael Jordan's input will fill that need), but the 'Cats have been trying to build their team slowly and correctly, and sooner or later all those high lottery picks working together could form a formidable team. if everyone can stay healthy this year, i dont think 35-40 wins is out of reach, and who knows, that could very well be enough to be in the playoff hunt. i'd like them to get one more high draft pick so they can pick up a decent C, then get a SG in the free agency, but i dont think they'll be bad enough to do that plan. 9/19/2006 2:57:50 PM |

haha I remember those games, on BvB I just used to pass it way up the court. Did you ever notice that after getting fouled and taking out at the defense's timeline, you could just pass to the point guard and take a three, and it'd go in most of the time? Unblockable, unless the computer did one of its crazy substitutions and had like rik smits guarding the PG
