yes, some people do dumbass things on PWCs.
that's not what this thread is about.
i dumped most of a can of Seafoam into the half tank or so of fuel in the jet ski, then put 3 new spark plugs in it (the old ones looked ok...a little black and oily, but i'm thinking about par for the course since it's a 2-stroke). i started it up and ran it for a minute or two to get some of the Seafoam into the carbs.
as soon as i get a chance, i'm gonna go burn up the rest of that old gas and refill it with some fresh fuel. hopefully that solves things. if not, i guess the next thing to do is a carb cleaning/adjustment. 7/9/2006 11:04:30 PM |

careful if you do the carbs yourself... they require synchronizing upon reinstalling, like bike carbs. 7/9/2006 11:08:26 PM |

yeah, i don't have vacuum gauges to do it, and honestly, it's worth it to me (at least right now) to pay someone to do it...i prob average 60-65 hours per week doing stuff for flight school, and 80+ hours of work per week isn't really unusual. 7/9/2006 11:10:20 PM |

I had to yell at some 50+ year old fucktard on a Sea Doo today. That faggot came within 5 feet of running over my wakeboard line and 15' from the girl that I was trying to pull up (we were waiting for her to get her feet in the boots.
Congrats on the purchase theDuke866. They're a lot of fun. I'm sure you have enough common sense not to look like an idiot while you're riding, but it's still a good idea to find a boater's safety handbook and flip through it if you haven't done much boating. 7/9/2006 11:11:40 PM |

I have no automatic beef with anyone on a jet ski. I love riding them myself. They just tend to be gateways to the boating world which means lots of n00bs.
N00bs + Fast Vehicles = Trouble.
To be fair...In the last two years I've had three close calls and two of them were boats.

sailboats have right of way over mostly everything except commercially operating vessels and "encumbered" vessels. During my batshit crazy race, we were off the coast of West Palm Beach when a parasail boat litterally cut in front of us with less than 50 feet between us. We were doing 25 knots (faster than the parasail boat at the time) but he had rights because he was commercial and technically "encumbered" by the parasail. The only thing we could do was crash gybe the boat and tip her over to keep from getting fouled in the parasail line and potential killing some poor sap tourist. It sucked too because we came in last that leg after that capsize.
But as for PWCs....

^ most annnoying thing in any sailboat is people coming up close to look at it and getting in the way the fucktards don't realize that you can't just manuver and change direction at will to go around them especially heading upwind, and when you're by yourself flying a hull in 25 mph wind doing all you can trying to balance the damn thing with the main sheet and the rudder, you can't pay that damn much attention to shit right around you, just on you're heading way the hell ahead of you 7/10/2006 10:00:01 AM |

69: We had a guy do that to us outside of Miami inlet. He and his family were on a smallish center console powerboat and was on a collision course with us. As we got closer, we saw that the guy wasn't even at the controls but underneath the console fishing out his camera. Dude was less than 20' away before I yelled out "HEY DUDE WATCHOUT!" He popped up from behind the console and started shooting away with the camera. We didn't get pissed because he did throttle back and wasn't moving very fast and had 3 kids up on the bow waving and saying hello to us.7/10/2006 10:03:48 AM |

hey, will a 3-series BMW tow a jet ski without much trouble? i know it's not the best tool for the job for pulling a trailer long distances on a regular basis, but would it do the job (including travel on the interstate if need be)? 7/10/2006 6:45:40 PM |

shouldn't be a problem, a single ski and trailer shouldn't weigh much if any more than 500-800lbs. depending on model, etc. most every vehicle on the planet is rated to tow at least 1k. 7/10/2006 7:08:20 PM |

well, i took it out today along with a buddy on his Sea-Doo RXP...had to jump start my Ultra--it's been starting easily until today (when i did the test ride, and a couple of times i've started it in the driveway since then). after 15 minutes or so, it started running a LITTLE better...would maintain an indicated 48-49 (which was showing ~53 on the RXP's speedo when he was riding along beside me)...still nowhere near how it should be running. i don't think it was revving much past 5k (i don't know how high it should rev, but i'm pretty sure it's well above 5k).
i finally ran out pretty much all of the old gas, then pulled into the marina and filled it up. unfortunately, my friend had to go home at that point (and we had them both on his trailer), so I didn't get to try it out with fresh gas. Hopefully that will offer some more improvement. 7/12/2006 10:45:53 PM |

I'm not sure how PWC engines are but with outboards you never start your motor without water running through it. 7/12/2006 10:57:55 PM |

Well with outboards unless you have muffs you are gonna fuck up the motor. On the newer four-stroke motors there are so big muffs don't work because you can't get enough water pressure to make it pee and the motor will overheat in a heartbeat.

hell I've got both a small powerboat and a jetski, and I have to agree that there can be assholes on any type of watercraft. I've seen dicks run through a cove on a 20' pontoon doing 20+, i've seen curtious jet ski riders, asshole jet ski riders... good powerboat owners and asshole powerboat owners.... I only ride the ski at the beach in the ICW/new river area and always obey the rules of the road... i ride a center console fishing boat at the beach and do the same and try to do my best at local lakes with my boat... what I cannot stand is when you have fucking fishing boats in the middle of the damn channel or whatever, or on both sides and then you get pissed off when I stroll by you doing 45... fuck you... don't get pissed at me when I'm operating a boat in the channel and you just happen to be fishing there... that gets me pissed off to no end... but then you're chilling in a cove or near the entrance and the bassboat flys by doing 50+ throwing wake everywhere... it just kills me the double standard that these guys live by... /rant 7/13/2006 11:24:53 AM |

it has more to do with respect for others on the lake and per capita there are less jet ski owners that have any than any other group...
I go to smith mountain lake more than anything in nc (house there)
and on that lake just after dawn the respectful speed freaks come out and play when no one else is on the lake... granted a blown 454 jet boat with open headers tends to wake some people up i'd rather them do that than try to weave through the people while the lake is crowded. 7/13/2006 11:39:17 AM |

Some of that shit doesn't even compare to the assholes on the fishing grounds who have no respect for your grear in the water and will run it over or just won't pay attention and force you to make extreme turns and cross lines, (you haven't lived untill you tangle two spreader bars). Its the responsibility of both operates to avoid each other. I haven't had an offshore trip that hasn't ended with me giving the finger to some asshat. 7/13/2006 12:00:01 PM |

A bass boat at 50MPH has almost no wake. The boat is barely touching the water at that speed.
btw...Them bass must be some fast fucking fish. Evidently you need 250+ HP on a tiny boat in order to catch one.

^yep. it's a must for the serious recreational fisherman as well, if you've really got a lake mapped out you know there's a window of time at each spot where it's "peak", and those windows can be only minutes apart. 7/13/2006 6:11:49 PM |

well shit, my old GSX-R 750 wouldn't haul nearly as much stuff around as my dad's Gold Wing. It was also uncomfortable as hell to ride. It devoured an expensive set of tires every 2000-3000 miles, had no reverse, was expensive to insure, drew more attention from cops than Dad's 'wing, required more maintainance, etc.
In short, it was a shit hot, awesome machine.7/13/2006 10:45:05 PM |
