How do you run barefoot with shoes on?

Seriously though, I've heard good things about those shoes...from hippys that is.

bethaleigh...would you ever go home with me from a bar?

If you PM me a smiley, I'll get the hint.

i should've said that it gives you the flexibility and benefits of running barefoot with additional protection of a thin, strong shoe.

^ its good for running in real dirty places like in the city, like where there might be debris that could cut your feet, like glass. but anywhere else, running barefoot is ftw and your feet will toughen up in no time

Better go find that hooker. Cuz I'm going to bed, and taking my boobs with me!

I have really sensitive feet but I grew up running around barefoot. You wouldn't believe some of the things I've stepped on! My feet are pretty tough compared to most people, but when it comes to rocks you can forget about it. When I go to the beach, I walk/run barefoot, and my feet hurt for about a day. Then they get used to it and toughen up. I can only imagine what running barefoot on hard surfaces does for your feet.

I can sprint a lot faster barefoot than with shoes. The problem is that I might step on glass and NEVER RUN AGAIN.

just watch where you step, know where glass normally is and try to remember where you have seen glass before. If you see a piece of glass pick it up and throw it away so you don't step on it later.

I've gone barefoot for years and so far I have never stepped on glass

even nike has admitted that running barefoot might very well be better for runners than using some high-tech shoe:

those Nike Free shoes are similar and let you run barefoot. However they provide a little support too, you can choose the insole you have and how much arch support it provides. I have them, and the first time I ran in them I got a cramp in my foot, but other than that they are pretty good shoes if you don't want to go all the way barefoot.

I went for my first run since October, and only made it about 1.5 miles. My feet have definitely softened up a lot, and I think I'm going to have to start building up calluses again... I might have some pretty blisters to pop when I wake up tomorrow morning

I'm going to be doing the krispy kreme challenge, problem is I don't really have any running shoes... I wish there was more grass along that way so I could go barefoot.

"As far as I can tell when you run barefoot (I know when I do) you run alot more on the balls of your feet. It seems to me that I go faster and don't get as tierd as fast. Even when I walk around barefoot I walk a lot more on the balls of my feet."

A runner (agentlion, et al) might correct me here, but in general, they say it's better to run on the balls of your feet for various reasons. And if you are just touching with the balls of your feet, your will generally feel faster, because your foot isn't dwelling on the ground for as long a time.

It's worth it for anyone that is running, to try and run on their balls more. It will take some getting used to, your calves will hate you for the first 5 sessions, but like mentioned, you'll feel lighter and your steps will be quicker.

In 2 of the 3 triathlons I did this year, the same guy from one of the masters age groups started in a swim wave behind me and would pass me on the run at what looked like 6.5 minute pace - barefoot.

Sooo, looking at the five fingers website . . .
Quote :
"FiveFingers™ is designed to fit like a glove-complete with individual compartments for each toe. A few tips for first-timers:

1. Walk barefoot for one minute to adapt to the sensation.

2. Place your FiveFingers shoe on the floor

3. Holding the heel tab in one hand, align your toes with shoe's individual toe compartments.

4. With your toes aligned, step down while inching your barefeet forward into the appropriate toe slots.

5. Check to see that you have only one toe in each slot.

6. After each toe is in place, pull up the heel tab, tighten the elastic and lock into place.

7. Now walk barefoot wearing FiveFingers."
I'm impressed that you're walking upright if you need these directions. This rates right up there with directions for Pop Tarts.

(I'm not knocing the general principal though, I walk barefoot all the time.)

that article from NYT shows that they are just about equivalent to barefoot... they just provide some protection from sharp objects.... but i'd still go to a store and try them out....
