Why do you guys think it's way worse in the South?

bc southern people frequently make comments like, damn yankees, or go back north, or describe someone as an asshole by saying he's a yankee and such, etc...(notherners occasionally are a little more upfront, but not in what I would call a negative way)

but anyway, that really doesn't happen in the north, i mean there may be some stereotypes, but people don't really refer to southeners in derogatory terms, not nearly as much as in the south anyway, not EVEN CLOSE TO AS MUCH.

this is what i have seen from my experiences, and I lived in central ny until i was 13, moved to nc where i lived until i was 22 (I still am), and now I'm living in nyc. so i've kind of seen both sides for a significant amount of time.

Actually, since this is a NC forum, probably most of the people who read this thread will be 1st or 2nd generation transplants. Wake County's population tripled since the 60s. Most of that was transplants. Most of those transplants were probably yankees.

For all I know, this amounts to one yankee just asking another yankee "what's up with all the yankees?"

Houses on the beach in NJ are $$$$$. And there are some very very nice beaches on the NJ coast, just like most other states.

its all in good fun for me. I know a bunch of peeps from up north, and we poke fun @ each other all the time, no bad blood. Its almost like making fun of the stereotypes instead of the actual people.

I'm not really sure about the theory that most of us posting are 1st/2nd generation transplants... if this was a Wake County board, sure, but it's NC ... which means you get a lot of ppl from Eastern/Western NC that can trace their families back many, many generations all born and bred southern

^ i wasn't saying it's all superior, I'm just opposing the idea that many NC'ers are 1/2 generation transplants

Why do I think it's better? IMHO, it's just a different walk of life. I think we appreciate things differently. We are conditioned from the day that we say our first word to be polite and respect our elders. We (women) are taugh how to cook food that can make any man melt, clean a house till it fuckin shines, and do just as much as any man can on a boat or with a gun... all without breakin' a sweat. I know that people up North are sometimes raised the same way, but sometimes growing up in the South makes you appreciate a (somewhat) slower and neighborly way of life.

it was a cop-out answer. "where you are from" is not "who you are" .just because you are from a region, it doesn't mean you have to embrace it. there are plenty of people who don't like where they are from.....and look at all the immigrants (now americans) who weren't bred here.

maybe im misinterpreting your answer, but i dont think "its who you are" is a valid answer to his question.

they may not have liked the political climate, or the oppression, but 99.9% of people readily recognize and embrace their nationality/heritage.

you could say that very same thing about Italian American women who live up North, or Mexican American women who live out West, so quit trying to act like the South is the cultural Mecca for women in this country.

I quit reading the thread because of comments like this

Quote :
"I can always tell @ work in the halls if someone i don't know is a yank, b/c they'll walk by you w/o acknowledging your presence. from the one's i've been able to verify 100% accuracy so far."

"Excuse me, sir - you didn't acknowledge me when you walked by. I don't take this personally, but I do want to ask - are you from the north? In my experience, the people who don't acknowledge others in passing are from the north, and I just wanted to confirm this fact, so I can consider it in my evaluation of encounters of this type"

I'm not a yankee, and I generally don't acknowledge people I pass unless I know them or I do it first.

People in Brazil and Chilie hate people from Argentina because they talk funny and crowd their beachs.

and also there are just as many Rednecks/white trash/hillbillys in the rest of the US as there are in the South. I dont get why people in the south think they some how are the only place that has small towns and shitloads of farms. And most of the USA have retarded accents and smile and shit when people pass them.

I live in Charlotte, been there my most life. My families genealogy is from Cabarrus/Mecklenburg, and South Carolina. I have noticed a lot of Northerners move down here, and a majority of them are polite and generally nice people, every region has their bad apples. I know a guy who is from Connectitcut, and he is a jerk says all southern food is burnt, that we are all slow and how great things were back up North. Every now and then you run into this type who ruins it.

To say we don't get stereotyped is BS, all over the national media, hollywood, the Southerners are generally portrayed as drunks, stupid, and backwards, I think that is where a lot of the hatred for people from other regions because we feel like we are always on the defensive down here. Plus losing the War of Northern Aggression makes us a little more defensive and wary of people up North.

but still the fact remains...

the southeast is the only region of the country that can't seem to accept the other regions...NOBODY else gives a fuck

people poke jokes at the south sometimes, who cares, most of them are rooted in some form of truth, whether it be archaic or not

I'm sure this has been answered BUT

We follow the jobs and the money. Many companies have relocated down here because the commercial rent in the Northeast is absolutely ridiculous. The companies move to the relatively cheap office space in RTP [or anywhere in R-D]. The employees get to keep their Northeast salaries, which are comparatively HUGE, and get to have the full benefits of southern prices. We went from high middle class or low upper class to pure upper class in NC in the drop of a hat. You can do TONS more with the money here then in CT, in my case.

Also, it's ridiculous to complain about it. We aren't moving to the rural areas. Just to the suburbs and urban areas. All it does is bring more money to the region for improvements and make things like professional sports and better school systems possible.

^ Exactly. I just moved to California and I tell people I'm originally from CT and went to school in Raleigh, NC. They always say how nice people think NC is. I don't get why the PEOPLE, in general, of the South are biased. No one else is.
