I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of virtual desktops... 8/8/2006 7:37:03 AM |

its to group common applications together instead of have all your open applications on a single desktop. 8/8/2006 7:46:51 AM |

well yeah I know what it's supposed to do from a theoretical perspective, but -- why?
I routinely have 10-15 applications open at once. I either Cmd-Tab through them, or use Exposé to find the window I want. Both seem to be just as time-consuming as moving around different desktop windows (this is not to knock virtual desktops on Linux, since I actually use those b/c I don't know Linux very well )
Now give me a completely different desktop itself, with different files on the screen, a different Dock, etc -- then I'd have a reason to use it. But virtual desktops just seem inefficient. 8/8/2006 8:46:09 AM |

The part where they bash MS is pretty funny... you can see it at about 26 minutes (you can just jump right to there): http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/aug_2006/event/index.html
The Time Machine demo is at 36 minutes, it's a good watch too.
The iPhoto crash is at 40 minutes. Not as amusing as MS's mess-ups though.
