My mother did that with all my college acceptance letters, including NCSU.

They must not have loved us as children very much.

You're going to Billings Montana

Hate to be you

you won't leave the United States unless of course you have family spread throughout the United States then they'll send you to a spanish speaking mission some where in Cali.

Get ready for the West Coast baby.

it's funny how "Snail Mail" can get me a 3 day Netflix turnaround (i get the dvd, i watch it, i send it back, they receive it, they send out a new one), but it takes 10+ days to get a regular letter

good luck!

2 brothers and a sister went on a mission.

Because my family is spread throughout the US the sent them abroad.

Everyone else from my ward ended up serving in the US unless their family was spread throughout and those who had gotten into trouble where sent to spanish speaking missions in the US.

Plus the SCCOJCOLDS is now trying to send only foreign missionaries to the abroad missions.

but this could change if you had a background in some foreign language.

no real background in a foreign language; how do they know if you have family spread out over the us; the new online application system asks nothing about it.

IIRC there is no place on a missionary application that asks you if/where your family lives. Though it wouldn't be hard to find out if all your family is a member of the church.

Haha. A coincidence maybe, but that's not the way it works. Plus I thought that "those that had gotten into trouble" didn't get to serve a mission these days. I still find that a funny notion.

The rule of thumb that I have always heard is that the church is trying to organize it to where a missionary serves in their native country, not necessarily foreign missionaries serving foreign (to them) missions. As the church grows and there are more and more members in foreign lands you'd expect them to send in less American missionaries as the countries become more and more self sufficient in sending out missionaries to other parts of their own country.

you can get laid once and still go on a mission. they just don't send you foreign. It isn't a blind process on where they send you.

they contact your bishop and stake president

just be ready to be asked about masturbation and have your diet totally fucked while in the MTC.

MTC food = the same food they serve at BYU - the only difference? You can't make your own food/go to Burger King. I actually gained weight - I wasn't accustomed to eating 3 times a day then but after 6 or 7 weeks (for lang. training) the food becomes because you already know what is coming a week ahead of time and you're sick of the same old stuff by then.

No caffeinated sodas in the vending machines there either IIRC.

To send off your papers you've already been interviewed by the Bishop and Stake President. You won't be asked anything you haven't already been asked. In the MTC you'll have a large orientation meeting - be prepared to fell a bit homesick the very first large orientation meeting includes parents that made the trip - largely missionaries leaving out of Utah. After that everyone says their goodbyes to their family for two years. It can be a sad thing to watch. After that you are placed in a district which is overseen by an older missionary couple - I forgot the calling was named - that guy will give you an interview that is pretty basic - a "how are you" meeting - then he will divide your group into companionships, assign a senior companion, and assign a district leader.

^^these missionaries will be away from family and friends for two years, sometimes in a country where they don't know the language. I suspect they want help people get all of their under their belts (pun) so people under extreme loads of stress don't have some form or fashion of guilt hanging over them when they are dealing with 1000s of other things.

yea what nutsmackr said about where people go doesnt make sense to me; i know atleast one person from my home ward that served somewhere where according to him they wernt supposed to serve.
ex, one is in california, just about an hour away from where is mom moved about 6 months before he sent off his papers;
two guys went foriegn who both have had sex with several girls before they left
one guy got sent to california spanish speaking who i know couldnt tell you what a naked girl looked like and has never kissed a girl before.

No, he was right. They'll probably ask that point blank. They will ask you if you are obedient to the law of chastity and they will more often than not have some follow up questions. You can add pornography to the list of questions they will more than likely ask as well. They want to make sure people are clean vessels when they send missionaries out to do the Lord's work.

If you have done those things they want to make sure you've repented and are free from those practices before sending you out.

fuck that, I visited my brothers on their missions. Drove around Yugoslavia with my brother and his comp and was witness to my other brothers comp getting sent home for getting shit faced. Good times.

that's why you have a friend who went to BYU meet you on the temple grounds to give you food.

i don't understand why you don't just have them open the letter and read it to you or have them scan it in and send it to you via e-mail. then you could avoid all this needless anxiety. and have them check the postmark, i can't imagine it really took this long to get here. it took three days for letters to get to and from raleigh/newport beach, CA.

Yeah, would have been nice. Too bad I'm an only child and didn't know the first person in Utah.
