Define right quick, because I know a few people (my self included) who naver had the cops show up fast enough (no, 45 minutes from phone call about shots fired through the window to arrival is NOT right quick).

Nevermind the facts that the cops have no legal obligation to protect any one individual and the fact that by the time the cops do get there (even assuming 5 minutes) you'd be dead if someone wanted to kill you.

Just to be clear, I'm not down with the car analogy. It sucks; cars ARE designed for transport. Guns ARE designed to shoot projectiles and seriously harm things. It's whether it should be one's right to protect themselves by shooting projectiles at things that is the ultimate question here, I think.

i could take any matter into my own hands, but i think vigilante law has its downfalls. that said, i can do things to protect myself and call the police without the need for a handgun. we've delegated them the task of enforcing our laws and catching bad guys so id be silly to ignore them altogether.
