^the NC State basketball program has numerous acc championship banners and 2 NATIONAL championship banners hanging in the rafters.
The football program has historically been shit. All we need to get excited about is a good team with a winning record...and beating UNC/being competitive with everyone else. A 7-5 season should be good enough as long as we're threatening to do better every couple of years.

This is EXACTLY right.
^, ^^, Please stop using that as a reason. HERB BROUGHT US OUT OF SHIT! Chuck has not improved since the O'Cain days and I can pull records to prove it. Duke has more ACC Championships than us in football, so Roof should go? 9/19/2006 7:37:10 PM |

Look I don't see why Herb was fucking hated and Chuck HAS been loved.
Herb consistently won 20 games and finished top 4 in the best basketball conference.
Chuck has 1 top 4 ACC finish in an okay conference and that was with the best QB the ACC has ever had. 9/19/2006 7:44:51 PM |

until last year we were competitive in the acc, which is all we're asking out of football (for most people). 9/19/2006 7:51:39 PM |

And he has nothing to show for it. I'm not bashing Herb, you know that. I'm just saying I think the expectations are and should be bigger for our basketball program.
One thing they both do that pisses me the fuck off is underachieve with superior tallent. Until this year Chuck has done that for 4 seasons in a row. Herbs last season was one of the best teams he had and he fucking flopped. Not bashing either, just an observation....maybe its the school.
one of the reasons chuck is loved is because he put an exciting product on the field and people liked his personality. Herb had the personality of a tree and put boring baskeball on the court.
I supported both...idk what to think about this football season though.

I wouldn't even mention both of those programs in the same breath as NC State because at least those teams have finished better than 4th place in their respective conferences in at least one of the last 4 seasons. " |
They went 4-7 and 5-6 in consecutive years after going 11-2 and 11-4. My point is valid. And nonetheless, your criteria for being better than 4th in their conference in at least 1 of the last 4 seasons as a means of comparison is pretty tenuous at best.

Oregon followed their 11-1 fiesta bowl win season in 2001 with a 7-6 Seattle bowl loss to WFU in 02 followed by an 8-5 Sun bowl loss to the Gophers in 03 followed by a 5-6 no bowl season in 04.
Keep in mind, they play in the P(L)AC-10.
The point is, the non traditional powerhouses have good years, then bad years. The powerhouses will forever have great years and good years.9/19/2006 8:59:31 PM |

How do you figure that? Most people were pessimistic going into last year after losing Hodge. Most magazines had us in the 6th/7th range of the ACC. We finished 4th. I actually thought it was one of Herb's better years coaching. We were not suppossed to contend, we won at BC and were in 2nd place for a good bit of the year and we were right there until the UNC loss.9/19/2006 9:06:36 PM |
