Hours Of Operation
Monday thru Saturday 5:00am - 6:00pm
Sundays 8:00am - 6:00pm

best days are probably thurs-sunday

bananas are already dirt cheap, and there is a shit ton of apples in the fall but i'm assuming that's mainly a seasonal item

cheaper than what? the grocery store?

sometimes, but not always. The thing is that it is generally fresher food. And you have to keep in mind it is mostly all seasonal stuff.

And you can buy actual ripe fruit. It's amazing how many people have never had a ripe tomato or strawberry.

I'm a fan of both restaurants. The octagonal one is awesome for breakfast food, and we go to the seafood one probably every couple weeks for lunch. Good food and cheap for the amount you get, at least IMO.

For those of you wanting peaches, this will be a bad year because of the late freeze.

just go for a little drive and pick your own in a couple weeks

but that is hoping that the late freeze didn't ruin everything.

My family grow peaches and we lost our whole crop. Everyone around home lost all of their peaches except maybe some very very late varieties (and they aren't that good anyway).

So no peaches this year

fyi, don't assume that just because it's the farmers market it's local. You'd be suprised from how far away some of that food comes. If you really want to be sure, you should ask the seller.

As for price, most things are cheaper, and many things are better quality, but again don't just assume. I do think that most of the berries and fruit is better. I love the bell peppers, you can't beat the price and taste. But other things, i've found better at the grocery store, actually, tomatoes are usually a suprising dissapointment, compared to 'on the vine' (which btw, when you buy them on the vine you should keep them attached to it until you use the tomatos as they keep their flavor better, and NEVER refrigirate tomatos,) but the farmers market ones are cheaper.

Oh, and i've found that the nurseries' plants live longer and stay healthier, though Lowe's does give you a year money back guarantee, but it's not like you're really going to keep your receipt and bring them back if they die.

^it being local depends on what time of year it is. About the only local things there right now will be the strawberries and sweet potatoes. Give it a few more weeks and there will be a lot more local stuff.

To sell in the growers area it has to be grown in NC. At least 51% has to be grown by that grower. Up to 49% can be grown by up to 3 other growers.

Actually, the growers don't have to be from NC, but circumstances make it impossible to come from out of state, except the border towns.

Quote :
"Use of the Farmers Area is for GROWERS ONLY. In order to sell in this area, the growers must complete and submit a Growers Certification Form signed and verified by your county’s Extension Agent. The Growers Certificate must be submitted before a space can be claimed. Growers that wish to do so may sell produce (fruits & vegetables only) for up to 3 other certified North Carolina growers, as long as 51% of the product being sold is produced by the grower/seller at all times. Only a grower can sell for other growers. Plant sellers may sell only plants they grow, and may not sell for other plant growers. Market personnel may visit your stand at anytime, make a count and visit your farm to verify. Those wishing to supplement the sale of their produce with other certified North Carolina growers produce must first visit with the Market Management to request and explain the situation and provide the necessary information (Growers Certification, commodities to be sold, seed and fertilizer invoices, etc.) to verify all products. Growers who designate another grower to sell for them are giving up their privilege to sell on the Market themselves for the season. Sellers are not to purchase products from Wholesale houses, Truckers Shed, Market Shoppes, nurseries or other outside sources in order to resell them in the Farmers Area."
