We have plenty of police officers.

Hell, if the rule of law in the US was at stake, and police recruiters were offering free college, excellent training, and $Texas signing bonuses, you'd better believe I'd join.

Well crap then, you have prior experience.

The Army could use you:

http://www.army.com/enlist/

(PS was the experience something to the tune of security guard or IT guy for the county police?)

Why do that when I can sabotage America from within by indoctrinating our youth with communist ideologies?

Just so you know, you should have typed "between you and me." And you should have spelled out "United States." The modifier "US" should be used adjectivally--it’s a modifier--as in "US Army," which YOU should join.

I did my time; now it's somebody else's turn. But if the shit REALLY hit the fan, I'd go back.

This is a stupid argument.

"You believe the school system sucks. Why don't you become a teacher?"

"You believe the dam is going to collapse. Why don't you become a civil engineer?"

"You believe the city should fix main street. Why don't you become a road technician?"

"You believe the forrest should be protected. Why don't you major in forrestry?"

"You wanted to invade Iraq. Why don't you join the military?"

"You believe the whales should be protected. Why don't you become a marine biologist?"

"You believe the invasion of Iraq was a mistake. Why don't you join the terrorists?"

The answer to all of these is simple: "All are political beliefs that I am free to possess and I don't feel taking on any of the roles given would be beneficial to me or to society."

First of all, you being a liberal socialist goes totally against your answer to your own question. You beleive passing laws to restrict individual freedom, priveledge, and rights in the name of safety and common good, but when it comes to your own individual freedom, choices, safety, and rights, your stance changes completely. When others' beliefs, rights, privledges, and freedoms are challenged, you beleive in standing firm for the common good, but when your own are threatened, you tuck and run and act like you don't give a damn?
Individualism is a very conservative concept.

As for my answer to that question, you are going to have to elaborate on that a little more.
But if you want a fundamental answer, I'd rather die free than live a slave.

^ Over simplification. Before you can lecture him on individualism vs. common good you should first find out whether he is a coersive socialist (Democrat) or a voluntary socialist (the Pope).

Odds are he is a coersive socialist, but it changes your lecture.

I drew the assumption he was a lefty from some of his other posts in different threads. I'm not critisizing him for being a lefty, that's his choice and business. My point is that his stance on this "death for common good and country" issue he posted here contradicts the "liberal, socialist, for-the-common-good" stance he has taken in other political threads here.

The reason the term "liberal" is something of a dirty word in this country nowadays is the fact that Americans are very individualistic and don't like being told what to do and what's best for them by someone else.

I could have just as easily said Republicans, would work either way. However, Republicans are more fascist than socialist but are equally coercive.

On this message board, I will say, "yes, I would die for my country" but that's a silly question to ask. I have no idea what I would do if someone came up to me and said, "If you die right now, you can save America." I would probably think they were nuts and get the hell out of there.

More to the point of your question (I think), those who are in a position to die for their country, such as soldiers, are not dying for their country so much as they are willing to risk their lives. The death of a soldier is tragic and should be recognized; but the willingness to die for ones country far more important.

I would say that I am willing to die for my country.

nope. the point wasnt about soldiers. soldiers arent garanteed death and they arent garanteed to be saving our country. totally different.
