I didn't hate UNC while I was at State.

But then I graduated and had to deal with UNC fans on a daily basis, and I've met a bunch of jerks.

Oh, and the other thing is that my dad finally got broadband access around the same time, and spends a ton of time on UNC message boards. Now every time I go home, I have to hear the same crap that those homers post all the time.

UNC decided to focus its efforts on basketball after Everett Case hammered them for so long. Case once beat UNC 13 or so straight times. UNC went out and got Frank McGuire and Duke stole Case's right hand man and former State player, Vic Bubas, from him. Add in Wake Forest and their few years when they get some outstanding players. UNC, Duke, and State have all combined for 9 men's basketball national titles. Now try to think outside the box mvemjsunp, all four schools are very close to each other, a little over an hour from tip to tip of Tobacco Road. All four schools are closer than most other schools that have rivalries. Alabama and Auburn are nearly 3 hours apart. Clemson and South Carolina are over 2 hours apart. Texas and Oklahoma are nearly 6 hours apart. Michigan and Ohio State are a little over 3 hours apart. I could go on forever. So when you put graduates and fans of all four universities in such a small area don't you think that they'd would hear each other talking smack about each other on the radio and elsewhere? Many people that go to State have friends they grew up with and went to school with go to UNC and vice versa. Friendships are sometimes lost, and sometimes they become stronger due to this. Families are sometimes even split up or strengthened by these rivalries. Where do you think they got the idea for those "House Divided" shirts and stuff.

All of this can be summed up in two words: Tobacco Road. There's nothing else like it in sports, and coaches and players will come and go, programs will rise and fall, but one think will stay constant, and that is the rivalries and hatred will always be there.

I never really, really hated UNC until I hung out with some of their under grad's.

It's not the school, the sports, anything except for the attitude of their graduates. People in graduate school over there seem ok, but their under grads are horrible.

I can't understand how UNC is considered a better university unless years of operation are a very large part of calculating rank.

As a whole, undergraduates at UNC performed better in high school and on standardized tests. It's fact. I'm not saying that it matters, but it's one way of evaluating.

Another fact is that if you removed our Ag school, then NCSU would have higher standardized test scores.

Also, NCSU undergrads tend to have a higher income per capita than UNC.

It's funny how engineering is basically fueling the economy in the triangle area and UNC grads fail to grasp that.

True on average, but ignores the fact that we have a larger enrollment.

If you take our top 16,000 students (or whatever UNC's enrollment is), you'll find that our scores are on the same level or slightly better.

How do you guys know that most people who go to state are conservative? Also my parents aren't from the south, they came here from colorado then had me,but I don't consider myself a southerner. So maybe I should have gone to UNC? Also, if I go to UNC for pharm school am I considered a traitor, or should I just try to go to Wingate/Campbell?

People at NC State's campus are generally more conservative than they are at UNC.

NCSU is like North Carolina's Georgia Tech, with more students, more programs, and a whole lot bigger campus. I admit that GT is a better school by ranking. If you removed some of the other less competitive programs at State then we'd have a lot higher standerdized test scores, average incoming GPAs, and school rankings. Truly though that's not how a school should be measured. The way a school should be measured is through the success of their alumni, in which case State does very well.

i remember going to a state/unc game at the RBC a few years ago and sitting up in the nosebleeds. Some little teenage unc fan faggot dressed up in an oversized jersey and a blue dew rag even though he was white. He was like "yo, dats my seat." And I was like "Man, stfu and go sit with LAFAWNDA. OK. so lets quit bashin humanities majors. I am a freshman at State, and I grew up going to games at Carter-Finley. I am majoring in Political Science and History. I got into UNC and NC State and chose the Pack over the heels. Why? CUz believe it or not, State's College of Humanities has gotten so good that their Poli Sci Department is the best in the state. The benefits of applying State's academic strengths (logic and empirical thinking) to teh perfect location for a politics program (the state capitol) and an intense intellectual and collegial environment. UNC is not as good as they think they are in anything, especially humanities.

i really don't hate them for their "liberal arts majors" as much as i hate them for their journalism major. there's a reason why i came up with the #1 reason to be a biochem major at NC State on the Biochem t-shirts was "Having a 2.75 in Biochem is still better than having a 4.0 at UNC's School of Journalism." the political science program at State is great b/c of the proximity to the capitol. i've known a ton of political science majors get jobs with local politicians and law firms.

How can UNC vs NCSU not be a rivalry?? NCSU was founded to correct the mistakes of UNC. They are the original MOO University of North Carolina. The were a Agricultural school for 20 years. In that time they never graduated a single person from the department. It is true if you took away the Agricultural Institute or 2 year program as most people know it then our grades would be higher. UNC thinks that they are better and higher class than NCSU. If you don't think that go hang out with the douches that go there. I like that the vast majority of NCSU fans either went to state or had parents that went to state. They traditionaly are more educated about the sporting program history than the WalMart UNC fans who buy the hats and shirts because they think its cool.

i have found (as a rule) that those who actually attended UNC are far less annoying than the Wal-Mart fans.

As an example, last year at one of the baseball games some redneck was yelling about how bad State was and how we were idiots. I asked him, "did you even go to UNC", he looked pissed off and said, "no". After that i asked him, "so you bought your shirt at your hometown Wal-Mart?"... he just laughed and continued yelling.. However others, including UNC fans, got a laugh out of it.

Another example, my girlfriend and her sister were at the Rascal Flatts concert at Walnut Creek. This was the day that we lost to SMU and UNC beat Furman. My g/f had brought a NC State blanket that they were sitting on... after a couple drinks the rednecks beside them began stomping on their NC State blanket and started chanting "State DONE lost, UNC DONE WON". When asked if they graduated from UNC they proudly pulled out their cell phones with UNC logo and attempted to pick a fight w/ 2 girls. I'm glad I wasn't there.

Anyway, I think it's the Wal-Mart fans that piss us off. I have several friends that go to UNC and they could give a rats ass about UNC athletics.

damn, where is that thread where I got into it with a unc fucker at the US Open...

It was last summer at Pinehurst and I was getting on one of the buses to go to the golf course. This 50 year old guy asked out loud when I got on the bus "WHat the hell is that shit?" while looking at my NCSU ballcap I was wearing.

I was like "This is The NC State University"

He then started talking mad shit while my gf, aunt, uncle and cousins got on the bus. I stopped him halfway through and asked him when he graduated from UNCommunityCollege and how much he paid for it...

He said he didn't go there but his daughter did...

And I told him that he couldn't talk anymore because buying a hat at the WalMart didn't make him eligible to join the UNC alumni association...

Then he's like "Well, thats the difference between State and Kerliner. We have class"

And I was like "Speaking of class, when did you go to college, oh thats right......."

He almost had a heartattack when everybody laughed on the bus...haha fucker.

Personally I think it's ironic that they portray an air of elitism when it isn't based on anything. Sure they are a good school (but not any better than State), but for regular undergraduate school they aren't that hard to get into.

Duke is a private school, you expect stuck up rich kids. Just the cost of going makes it elite in the sense that some people can't afford it. Stuck up liberal middle class journalism and french creative writing majors going to a run-of-the-mill state school are just annoying. And your school colors are gay.
