Meg and Ben were awesome people. I go to the same church as they did and I know everybody misses them terribly. I just feel bad for Andi losing both of them at the same time. Her faith is strong though, so I know she'll pull through.

I think they said he had a totally clean criminal record up to this point on channel 11 Sat. night. Never said he was illegal or was charged with driving without a license. Only said he was charged with DWI and 3 counts of inv. manslaughter.

Its a damn shame though that this guy finally gets in trouble (may have been drunk driving for years for all we know and this was the first time he fucked up) and put three people in bodybags, but he fucking lived. Such a damn shame.

Nobody said he was illegal. Just a latino, which have disproportionately high numbers of DUI and related accidents. If we can't address this issue without being called racist then you are doing a disservice to the latino community which needs help addressing this.

I think is is relevant that he was Latino only to the extent that drunk driving is more socially accepted in Latino circles (as pointed out in the thread in a few places). There definitely needs to be a stigma associated with driving drunk and if one particular (and fast growing) group of Americans doesn't associate that stigma, then there is a problem there.

However, relevant to this particular case, nothing about this man's ethnicity changes that what he did was horrible, uncalled for, and that the book should be thrown at him.

If he, as no one has proven, is also illegally in this country, then I can see an uproar about the ease with which unlicensed drivers have freedom to drive not only illegally, but impaired as well.

there was a law for a short bit in nc that if a person was killed in a drunk driving accident, the drunk driver could be charged with 1st degree murder...i say bring it back
