SOCRATES:
Finally, he was arrested and accused of corrupting the youth, inventing new deities (heresy), and disbelieving in the divine (atheism). According to traditional accounts, he was sentenced to die by drinking poison. Presented with an opportunity to leave Athens, he believed it would be more honorable to stay in his home country. Therefore, at the age of 70, he drank the hemlock and died.

Hot air balloon proposals are pretty awesome. I crew for a balloon, so if you're interested for the proposal, or just to go for a couple's flight (great gift for anniversaries and birthdays if she wants), PM me and I'll get you the pilot's information. It's so romantic up there, and the pilot I work with is really awesome about timing awesome views for proposals. If you're not able to time the flight or get the location you want with this pilot, he can hook you up with another pilot in NC as well.

Here's his balloon:

I second the arboretum Idea... except my execution was much more pimp then the other guy...

Candlelight dinner (filets from outback) setup and waiting as we walked around. It was about as successful as you could ask for....

The people who manage it are pretty nice, and if you ask them politely, they would have no problem with it.

Just make sure you arrive before 8 I think, because those gates do close.

That sounds nice but don't propose at like the Ice House or Applebee's. Iif you want to do the first date thing then go through it but add something special to the end and propose then. A really sweet proposal I heard about was the girl just got back on a trip (without him) and there was a note on her door saying to leave her suitcase in the car, put on a blindfold and knock on the door. When she knocked he took her inside and after he lit candles he took off her blindfold so she saw rose petals and lit candles everywhere. He was on his knees with his hands behind his back and asked her to pick a hand. She picked one and he proposed to her but in the box was a toe ring...when she said yes he said something about her getting the real ring and pulled the real ring from behind his back.

He might want a bottle of champagne or something on hand to open after she accepts while the call the parents to tell them the news. I know my parents still have the bottle from theirs and when my boyfriend came to visit my grandparents with us they pointed out the highlights of their proposal (including the abc store where they ran out to get the bottle).

Southport, NC is an absolutely gorgeous little coastal town in Brunswick county, I know there's a gazebo in a park down there, I saw it once, lol. I'll bet they decorate real quaint for Christmas. Also, Wilmington is nice because Airlie Gardens is pretty year round, and the downtown historic distric would be good if the premise was a weekend getaway. Topsail Island is a personal favorite. You can rent a little house at off season rates for the weekend for a little more than a nice hotel. Around the island is becoming more commercial, but the south end is gorgeous at sunset because there are not any houses and the road stops for the last mile and a half, so it's just beach and grass. And contrary to popular belief, the beach doesn't suck in the winter-sure you can't swim, but it's much more cozy to stay warm together. If you have any questions about the coast, feel free to pm...I worked at a real estate office down there this summer.

I am still floored that someone said the beach sucks this time of year...
whatever, I love the outer banks and it is quiet and relaxing there this time of year. You should ask about the gardens in Maneo, that would be different this time of year.

I also thought of the Biltmore House, but really it should be something he comes up with. My husband proposed at lunch while we were in New Orleans for a sporting event. It was great and I remember it like it was yesterday...

I'll rent out my farm for anyone who really wants a romantic place in the country. I live on a Christmas tree farm out in the country and I have a barn that is fixed up like a cabin among the trees. I have a woodstove downstairs as well as gas heating, lights, tv, AC, and a living room upstairs with bedding for 4, a recliner and couch.

I'll even start a fire in the woodstove, put some cloves on it and turn up some old romantic Christmas songs while the aroma fills your nostrils.
