arkansas wasnt picked preseason but they benefited from those preseason rankings by the "domino effect" i was talking about earlier. they beat auburn who was really high which made them get really high.
if you sporatically placed wake bc vt gt and maryland in the top15 preseason polls where would they all be right now? 11/6/2006 11:02:20 PM |
cyrion All American 27139 Posts user info edit post |
they are up there with arkansas are they not?
edit/add: and arkansas will likely drop quite a bit if/when they lose to UT. UT is currently only a few spots away from GT/Wake and arguably VT/BC/Maryland. one game could shift them all around so i dont see why you are whining.

The funny thing is the ACC hasn't won a BCS bowl game since '99. That was FSU over a now ACC Va Tech team. So in reality they haven't won a BCS bowl game over a non-ACC school since the '97 season, the BCS' first season.
The prospects don't look to good this year either.. THAT is laughable. The team I hope breaks that streak is State next year.. not that I think it will happen.

Ok, it's Gameday. Some tidbits I picked up on the radio on the way to work.
- In 62 years no Top 10 team has defeated two undefeated teams in November. With a win tonight Louisville will do that. - Louisville, over the past 5 years, has offered to play a home and home (or a 2 and 1) with 10 different SEC schools. They all declined except for the UL natural rival Kentucky. (basically the SEC 1 loss teams can shove it up their ass after hearing that) - Rutgers has added 3,000 additional seats and more press credentials than have ever before been handed out for a NY, NJ, New England college football game. - Mike and the Maddog, the highest rated local sports talkshow in the nation will broadcase live today from the Rutgers stadium. - New York City has decided to light the Empire State Building 'Scarlet Red' for the game tonight.

Stewart Mandel's College Football Mailbad had the first page dedicated to the UL questions:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/stewart_mandel/11/08/cfb.mailbag/index.html
And Pat Forde's Forde Yard Dash also addressed the situation:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=2652451
Basically the two are telling the SEC and the rest of the country to eat a big fucking dick. Mandel is a bit softer, but Forde sounds like he wants to go to Atlanta and shit all over the georiga dome while it's full of the bitching fans - i love it!!!

I seriously hope those Rutgers kids can keep from weeing themself tonight. I don't know how they'll focus, but I hope they dominate. Jersey would be upsidedown if they won; this is Rutgers National Championship right here.
EDIT: That Forde article was awesome...look at this:
Quote : | "When Texas and USC racked up 1,130 yards and 79 points in the Rose Bowl, it was considered one of the greatest games ever played. When Louisville and West Virginia combine for 1,018 yards and 78 points, it's the result of atrocious defense better suited to the Western Athletic Conference than the BCS Championship Game.
Vince Young, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart can make good defenses look bad. So can Brian Brohm (4), Steve Slaton (5) and Pat White (6), especially with game plans conceived by Bobby Petrino (7) and Rich Rodriguez (8). Ask SEC blueblood Georgia, which had the No. 8 scoring defense and No. 18 total defense nationally in 2005 but was blown up for 502 yards and 38 points in the Sugar Bowl by West Virginia." |
I totally had not thought of it that way, but it's true.
And it also speaks about teams backing out again Louisville...NC State better hold their commitment. Even if we get owned, we need to play decent teams to get better/attention

I think it's funny that 90% of the country plus nearly every major college football analyst associated with the 'old guard' wants Rutgers to win as if it was somehow make the Big East illegitamite again.
That said,

^ Louisville actually dropped us last year (or maybe 2 years ago) because of the schedule change craziness after the conference realignments.

Either I completely misunderstood you or something...but *my* thought is that the entire country wants the HUGE underdog to win just because they're such an underdog. Plain and simple. Has nothing to do with conference.11/9/2006 2:06:32 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
I disagree, plain and simple. SEC, Big 10, and Big XII fans simply don't like the idea that a Big East team will play for a National Championship over one of their 1 lossers. Those are the three conferences I refer to as the 'Old Guard' of college football and it really pisses them off a relative newcomer might play over a UF, Auburn, Texas, or Ohio State/Michigan loser..
ACC fans probably don't really care as much because there are no legitimate title contenders and it is a relatively new football superconference.
V yes they are.. it's pretty much a certainty at this point.
