At the kennel I work at out of all breeds beagles are the most annoying. They howl and bark nonstop and when you let them out to play in an agility yard you will never get them back. They love for you to chase them around as they howl at you for entertainment. They don't listen! Typically if someone has one beagle they've got another as well! Two beagles are worse than one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111 11/14/2006 5:44:15 PM |

meh, fuck the beagle and the hound. i can deal with the stubborn behavior but its the excessive shedding that i cant deal with, especially for an indoor pet. i know all dogs shed, but everyone ive talked to say that both breeds do it pretty much year round. thats not somethin im willing to deal with. 11/14/2006 8:27:19 PM |

Miniature and Standard poodles are far from ankle biters.

I'm biased, but if I were you I'd look into a Shiba. Mine has been a pleasant surprise (i.e. him as a puppy is much easier than I thought it would be). 11/15/2006 1:12:28 PM |

I'm falling in love with really big breeds lately. Get a great Dane, or an Anatolian! Anatolians are the shit! Huskies are awesome too!
Different versions of the Anatolian Shepherd;
My favorite is the white one on the right, they're pretty.

I can see the 2nd and 3rd pics being the same breed of dog, but not the top one. His skull structure looks completely different! Are you sure those are all the same? 11/17/2006 1:37:10 PM |

^I looked him up on dogster, he's a mutt. Anatolian/Aussie and they painted him as a tiger for Halloween or something in that pic.

Head structure is not completely different. Tail is same to other Anatolians as well. But the striping made me think it wasn't solid breeding.... I didn't so any research on that pic though, just found it neat and posted.
We've got a white one that comes to work and his the biggest baby. The shit eats raw meat twice a day with dog food. I think it's cool breeders don't want them in the AKC... 11/17/2006 11:55:21 PM |

Wow there's a lot of dumbass up in here. Completely "dog senseless" on most counts, some of you know what you're talking about though, unfortunately not the majority. 11/18/2006 12:36:00 AM |

Alright, I'll give you a hint.
Beagles are an pain in the ass in just about every way imaginable unless they live in an OUTDOOR kennel and are trained for hunting rabbits. If you want to pay $700 for a beagle as a pet and not a hunting dog, that's your business...but I shall snicker at your choice of "pets." Heads of titanium, bred to follow their nose and not YOU.
I'm rushed for time, but whoever suggested the fullsize poodle knows what they're talking about. They're actually great retrievers and water dogs. Though finding one that isn't bred purely for looks (ie: often dumb as a rock) is tough to come by.
Leave beagles for Elmer Fudd to hunt down that rascawwy wwabbit.
Maybe look into a Greater Munsterlander as a companion dog if you're looking for a "pet" that has the ability and brain to cover the spectrum of all things desired? Great dogs and the "hey you wanna breed my dog with it's sister mother and make some money!" assholes haven't gotten ahold of them...yet. Just a thought.
I don't know squat about anatolians. Bring me one to play with.

You could consider a labradoodle, which is a lab-poodle cross breed. They are much cheaper than standard poodles, and don't need grooming as often. They hardly shed at all! Labradoodles are also friendly and intelligent.
My family's labradoodle is now a year old and she is the sweetest dog around! She was easy to train, I can count on one hand the number of times she made a mess in the house. Like with any dog, labradoodles need lots of excercise - both physical and mental. Here she is as a puppy

Anatolians are herding dogs. From the customer who owns one he says his is sensitive. They need lots of room to run but are very loyal. I can vouche for that because Sue-his Anatolian- cuddles up against me when he comes by to stay for the day. He has this habit of rubbing his head against you in a nuzzling sort of way. He loves to play and is generally goofy. But this is the first Anatolian I've ever seen so I don't know what all of them are like I just know the breeders are keeping a tight leash on them so the breed isn't watered down with backyard breeding. That's why they were illegal in the US for a while. 11/19/2006 9:35:14 PM |

Backyard breeders can fuck up a dog in a hurry. Whatever breed you go with, do some research on the breeder and bloodlines. Just because a dog is AKC registered doesn't mean shit. 11/20/2006 11:27:10 AM |

Beagles are great dogs. They will listen to you if you train them. They can be hard headed if you just let them be, but most dogs will ignore you if you don't train them. I had one that would walk beside me and stop when I said heal. They aren't expensive most people who breed hunting dogs will not keep all the dogs and will give them away. 11/20/2006 11:30:52 AM |

Give them away because no one wants a beagle! OH SNAp! Ha I'm kidding. Most people don't know how to properly train dogs and that's how they get into trouble. Beagles can be especially stubborn when it comes to training and dominant, most people do not realize this. From day one you have to be the alpha dog...and know all the subtle signs a dog uses to be number one. 11/20/2006 11:52:48 AM |

There are Beagle breeders EVERYWHERE in NC. This is the south, and they're a popular type of hunting dog. Look a little more, 18 inch Beagles are EVERYWHERE!
