Concur. I have one...nice jack-of-all-trades daily driver.
Yep. Flaming gay.
I guess the TT is pretty much it if you're dead set on AWD and convertible. If you sacrifice one of those things, more options open up. Personally, I don't think it'll snow so much that you'll really need AWD. if so, have you considered buying what you want to drive daily, then getting a beater 4x4/Subaru/etc?
if you can't justify spending $1500 or whatever for a snow car, does it really snow enough that you should base your daily driving decision on AWD?
the TT is ok, I guess, but it's pretty much the most candy-assed, womanly car in its class. It's a dressed up VW trying to play in a class of actual sports cars, and it shows. It gets trounced in every comparo. It has (to a large degree) sports car compromises without the payout of the sports car driving experience.
I mean, my 330ci is no sports car by any stretch...but it has a backseat, a big trunk, a bone crushing (for factory, at least) stereo that you can hear clearly because the car is so quiet, a smooth ride, good fuel economy (i've gotten 26.5 mpg around town before, although that's not the norm), etc.
I've had a couple of very serious sports cars, and I love them. I can't wait until I'm in a position that I can justify getting another one. However, the whole reason I'm driving a 330ci right now is because I was having to put up with the shortcomings of a sports car without getting a chance to enjoy its advantages. a TT doesn't even have the advantages.

Update!!
Went and tried to shove the clubs in the TT, and was able to get them in, barley. Had to remove the clubs from the bag, and put it all in there separately, but they did fit. Was a freaking awesome car to drive to, love the Quattro.
However, I met a guy in the parking lot getting his car appraised, and it happened to be a 2001 Porsche Boxster S. He let me drive it, and is basically gonna give it to me for NADA Trade in value $25,000 with 35k on the clock (I think I can even get him down a little too).
Ah the choices! I was happy to just drive off in the Quattro, but man, that Porsche was an awesome ride. I hate to give up the AWD, but I may just have to for the deal this guy is giving me.
Thoughts? The Audi was still less at $21,000, but its not as good a deal. 12/4/2006 4:42:27 PM |

i will say that its the second least real porsche ever made, heres my list
most un-porsche porsches ever
1: cayenne (no brainer) 2: boxster (you gotta come stronger than that ferdinand) 3: 944 (cmon you cant be serious) 4: 928 (you put a what in a porsche?) 5: 914 (old version of #2)
the only three numbers that matter are 9 1 1
(and whatever its sucessors are numbered)

a lot of people can afford the porsche as a car, but maintenance is where you will pay the real price, especially if you are not DIY type. measly E36 M3 requires shit load of special tools, i cant even imagine how it is with newer german cars

I like 944 turbos, but I'm down with the 80's. They were so advance for their day... like having airbags in 1988 or whatever. They're at least as fast as a boxster S.
Good call with this car man. It's gonna hold its value and be remembered much better than an Audi TT. 12/8/2006 1:11:29 AM |

I actually mostly agree with this list... I would put the 944 at 2 though, and maybe bump up the 928. The S version is a little stouter. I wasn't really looking for a porsche, so that doesn't really bother me. I think this is about the best car in the class I was looking, and found hella deal. Sooooo... I guess I am now an official Porsche douchbag 12/8/2006 1:36:06 PM |
