Yeah from my limited understanding of wine production - most wine is produced in a very similiar manner (ie your gas-station thunderbird or your 50 dollar merlot) - but the differences in price mainly reflect the level of quality control in checking for those 'bad' batches.
Which is why when you buy some cheap as fuck gas station wine you'll occasionally get a good tasting bottle.
(This was the shortened version I got from my Uncle who worked in a wine production facility for a part-time job while attending med school) 12/1/2006 5:01:39 PM |

I just got back. There was a 30+ minute wait to buy stuff and some shelves were totally out of stuff. Not worth it unless you go the middle of the day during the week I'd say. 12/2/2006 12:29:46 PM |

That's funny...one of the things that I like most about the one in the West End is that you can speed through the grocery lines--much quicker than at Safeway or Giant. 12/2/2006 12:38:59 PM |

I got flyer or whatever for Trader Joes in the mail last week but I put it in the "to be shredded pile" as I didn't know what it was. I might pull it out and go through it to see whats up. I'm loyal to the Food lion and Lowes food stores and I'm totally against change! 12/2/2006 12:59:36 PM |

I went this afternoon. They were doing very good business. The food is great and the prices rival food lions MVP prices. It took me about 15 mins to get through the line. The best part to me is the people working there. No food lion bitches that won't even look at you, let alone talk to you.
I saw a bunch of people buying like 30 bottles of wine. What's up with that? 12/3/2006 7:56:43 PM |

i went sat, it was ridiculous. bare shelves and longass lines.
they do have great prices on organic and veggie stuff though, glad whole foods is getting competition.
and to my surprise, targets are carrying more and more veggie stuff too, hopefully prices will begin to come down... 12/4/2006 10:09:19 AM |

The prices and the quality are both good reasons to shop there. The shelves are just stripped bare because it's a new store and EVERYONE is going like crazy... give it a few weeks and they'll be able to keep goods on the shelves better.
Plus, the lines don't take an hour to get through.. I got through a 15 person checkout line in less than 10 minutes. Most people aren't buying tons of stuff, and the cashiers bust their ass.
Good place to shop. 12/4/2006 10:18:45 AM |

So I went today and here's my summary
-3pm, somewhat crowded...it was the after-school crowd. The cashier said it slows down around 8pm on till close.
-They have a great selection of frozen food. I would say on average the prepared frozen food is $2 a serving. Most of them you can heat and eat. They have an amazing selection of flash frozen fish and shrimp.
-Many things they offer are individually wrapped...like chicken breasts for instance. You can take one out without having to worry about the rest being exposed to air...great idea.
-In addition to three buck chuck, they also have their own selection of beer...including their vintage ale brewed by Unibrou I am drinking one right now, and it's excellent...and $3 cheaper than all other Unibrou beers
-They have a selection of prepackaged wraps for $3.50 which all seem healthy...that's much less than Whole Foods or Fresh Market
-Their cheese selection is impressive and HALF the cost of Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods).
-The atmosphere is fun...the cashiers all seem to be having a good time. Whenever they need a manager's asistance, they ring a bell at their register. When they needed a price check, they rang the bell and held up the item. The manager would find the price and they would relay it back to the cashier by yelling from employee to employee. You can tell the people who work there like working there.
-It's smaller than I expected...maybe 7 aisles total. But what they do have is good.
The sign in front of the store said "Ok already, we get it...you love us!" It also said "Now Hiring! If we told you on Monday we were hiring, we changed our minds...we want you!"
All in all, a good experience...I will be back. 12/5/2006 5:57:03 PM |
