Thank god this fiasco is over. Now Boras can get moving on getting Zito to come to Flushing...

^ exactly. The Red Sox knew that Boras wasn't going to let him not sign (because then he does't get paid) so they had all the chips..

Everyone agreed he's worth a $100 million contract...so please explain to me why the Red Sox bid so much higher than the Yankees did

No, Matsu did NOT get what he deserved

to prevent the yankees from getting him

and the 51.1 mil isn't counted towards the lux. tax anyways so that helps the sox as well

dnl, go back to chit chat. this guy was mvp of the wbc, has never had a season in japan worse than .500, and gil meche (career 55-44, 4.65) who was 11-8 last year with a 4.48 era just signed for 11 mil a season, so how isn't he worth 8.75 mil per?

Holy shit you people are dense...

Daisuke Matsuzaka did not get the amount of money he deserves. He didn't get the money he deserves because the Boston Red Sox used the posting system against him.

You're right, at the moment his only value is measured by the contract most people thought he deserved...100 mill over 5-6 years

Alright, so now let's go to next year, and Matsuzaka's twin brother is up for posting. After being burned this year how much will the Yankees put up for his bidding rights? Even more, and the player will get less money...and so on. It's no risk whatsoever for a team to bid so much and then try to give the guy a shit deal. No, what this guy got isn't a shit deal, but it can only get worse.

so far, you're the only one making a huge stink about this

if selig and the japanese league see something wrong, there will certainly changes

although i doubt the japanese teams will say they're getting too much money

if the japanese players don't like american contracts, just stay the fuck in japan

problem solved

and thats what boras was trying to prove, and eventually it will get changed when it turns into a ridiculous bidding war, and the player will not get less money just because the size of the bid increases

There's plenty wrong with baseball that Selig doesn't make a big deal out of...excuse me for not using him as my guide of what's right and wrong with baseball

and the Japanese aren't going to care because they're getting all the money from posting that's being put up for their players

He might be worth it, but the posting system is retarded, that fact that we have to purchase the rights to talk to him is the stupidest thing ever. They should be happy a star like that is going somewhere for their contry, you don't see Mexico asking for money frmo us and The dominican, they should just say, the player will come back and help out charity wise.

What should happen is every player who intends to come to America should be including in the draft. I know it's called the 'amateur draft' but a name can change. Or have a separate Int'l draft.

This makes too much sense and will never happen though. Plus a lot of Dominican/Puerto Rican/Venezuelan scouts would lose their jobs...

Exactly. It's either using the posting system or entering the mlb draft (and then working for peanuts until they get 6yrs. exp.). Either way, young stars get screwed.

Matsu is making a helluva lot more than the likes of Santana, Papelbon, Howard, Mauer, Verlander...

And again, if the contract isn't suitable to the player, they can stay in Japan.

as an aside, the contract gil meche signed is identical to the extension santana signed last year

that is what's wrong with baseball

I hope the Red Sox release a statement with how to properly pronounce Matsuzaka's name because it will drive me nuts this summer listening to all these baseball announcers making an abortion out of his name (mainly his first name, since his last name is easy to pronounce if you can read).

Actually, I think it's more that "Dice-K" is the way you're supposed to pronounce his first name, rather than it being his nickname.

Glad to see the red sox's spending money like the "evil Empire" the Yankees. Alot of teams this off season are giving huge contracts out. A unproven pitcher is worth 17 million a year to Boston. He will do good to start with but the Major league will figure him out. Can't wait to see if he can adapt to being hit.

From what I saw from Matsuzaka in the WBC and on all the Japan clips of him, he likes to pitch up in the zone. I'm not sure if it is intentional or not, but he will get killed in boston if he pitches up in the zone. A lot of guys throw 95 mph fastballs...major leaguers will cream it if it is belt-high.

He had better keep the ball down and have good control of his off-speed stuff, or he will be no better than a 12-13 win pitcher.
