It's not lie Mississippi is any worse as a state than Louisiana.

It's pathetic that your fandom rides on this.

Upon further review, Carl Franks was his name, and he was assistant OC.

I'll remain a fan, I just be a fan in waiting for the Johnson express to blow up and we hire a real coach.
Jimbo has expressed interest in this job. Likewise, johnson will cost more than 1.25 million, which is too much to pay for a coach who is somewhat high risk. 12/5/2006 11:26:26 PM |

Not quite the same, but a good point.
Paul Johnson is winning in D-1 football with players who lack the size, strength, and speed of most other D-1 athletes. He went from running an aerial offense at Hawaii to a freakin' option offense with Navy with a rather small and slow o-line. He is a SMART coach. Good at X's and O's.

i can understand why people like jimbo fisher, but I think LSU is creating hype that he must be good because he coaches at LSU and they are great, but the thing is LSU has had a lot of success lately but a lot of it is due to their defense and i think people need to remember that, i mean their offense is pretty good but a main reason they win is because of defense, a lot of the games they lose are because their offense cant put points on the board 12/5/2006 11:46:46 PM |

Everyone needs to calm down about PJ's offense for goodness sake: I have typed on here a few times and other people have as well he has gone on record more than once stating that he wouldn't run the wishbone if Tom Brady was his quarterback; he would not run the wishbone here (although personally i don't care if we WIN freaking games)
He was pass happy at Hawaii, and for whoever it was that was saying he still was in the wishbone formation he just happened to throw out of it all the time I ask this: Why do you care if we set up in the wishbone but throw the ball every play; does it really matter how we line up as long as we get our best playmakers the ball more often?
Secondly, the guy is a PROVEN WINNER. Someone in this topic made the point about winning against cupcakes every week and that is the only reason he is winning at Navy, but I counter with this: the two years before he was there they went 1-20. They weren't beating the cupcakes then that they play every week. Since his arrival, and this is counting his first year where they went 2-10, he has posted a 36-24 record with four straight bowl games. He is doing something right there. 12/6/2006 8:56:40 AM |

living in maryland, i see a lot of navy games, and hear a lot about his program. i love watching his offense and hes a classy guy. no bullshit, just hard nose football. we need discipline and a sense of purpose...i fully believe that johnson could bring that here.

yea it would be great to be Wake Forest.. well actually better than Wake..
I'm willing to see what Johnson does here.. He seems to be a smart guy.. The only game I've seen his offense in was the Army-Navy game last week.. So i'm not that familiar with his offense, and how successful it is against different defenses.. Wasn't that impressed by the offense, but it was working.. that's all that matters.. We're in the south, we're in the ACC.. PJ won't need to recruit players that would be required to join the Navy.. which made things hard for him.
I think he will adapt his option offense to what is needed to win.. whether its the run-happy Navy offense that works, or the pass-happy misdirection offense during his Hawaii stint, or a combo of both.
He may have to change to a more passing offense until he gets the QB talent he needs to run an option offense successfully.
I can't wait for the Meineke Bowl.. See what Navy does to a winning ACC team. 12/6/2006 9:40:03 AM |

Navy's offense had a tough go at it in the Army-Navy game. I chalk it up to 1) it's Army-Navy 2) army really played above themselves that day and 3) our QB was a little jittery in his first A/N game and made some bad reads
The only game where I thought we played worse on offense was against Rutgers, and that's the one where our starting QB had his knee demolished. The team just couldn't recover from that shock. 12/6/2006 10:02:21 AM |

whether or not Burke and Beck are awesome QB talent is yet to be determined.. Even if they are awesome, they may not be what Johnson needs to run the style of offense he likes. That's what I was trying to say.

^^^yeah, isn't that the other pretty cool thing about Navy this year? the qb they put in after their starter went out for the year was like a special teams guy and wasn't even ever really supposed to play quarterback; he did a good job though for the remainder of the season.
i don't know what kind of system johnson would put in, but this kid (Russell Wilson) sounds like he could be the future of a johnson spread type system; don't want him to start as a true frosh but he could be good in the future. He is a dual-threat qb and this is what espn had to say about him as a recruit:
Quote : | "If this kid was 6-2 or 6-3, he would be a top-flight quarterback prospect nationally. With that being said, Wilson is a hybrid between former Virginia QB Marques Hagans and Doug Flutie. He has one of the quickest releases we have seen over he last two years. The ball comes out in a hurry. He is a great little athlete -- a true dual-threat -- but clearly a passer first. He has very good mechanics overall. He gets back and sets up quickly and carries the ball high in the pocket. He is calm and balanced and sees the field well considering his lack of height. He has very good quickness and he can buy time in the pocket with his movement and shows the ability to avoid the rush. He is a threat when he pulls the ball down as he has the elusiveness to make people miss. He has very good accuracy in the short-to-intermediate passing game. Flick of the wrist release is awesome. He shows good toughness and the ability to stand in and take a hit. The problem is that he is short and lacks a great arm. Arm strength is adequate, but not powerful. Lacks zip downfield. He is at his best when the pocket moves so he can find throwing lanes. Overall, if in the right offense, Wilson could have a bright future. He is fun to watch and you respect his competitiveness." |

Quote : | "Here is what I just heard....Johnson in Raleigh talking to the State people this afternoon. Apparently they think he is going to take the job because everyone is saying they will have a new coach by the end of the week. Same source says if Johnson does take the job look for the wolfpack to be an aerial team. He says the only reason Johnson ran the offense he did was because he didnt have the talent to do otherwise at Navy.
