The CIA has done some fucked up shit, but some of the things in your little list, cathocutie, are pretty blatant misrepresentations themselves, they sometimes contradict each other, and frequently assume that brutal communist dictatorship is somehow preferable to brutal pseudofascist dictatorship.

I especially like how you berate the CIA for installing murderous dictators as well as for ousting murderous dictators.

Ultimately, I'm the type who thinks the Cold War was something that needed winning, and so I'm willing to allow for some pretty shady shit. Not everything on that list, certainly -- some of it went to far, and some of it was simply unecessary (no one's ever going to sell me on Nicaragua posing a threat to US national security).

I used to be, but I've changed my mind. I don't think people are sheep that can be herded easily. So, while the CIA and the KGB were able to get their way in the beginning, all it took was effort, I credit this to the fact that they didn't exist before then. After a while people begin to look for and find your hand in stuff. The only reason this did not happen during the cold war was because the east had the KGB and the west had the CIA, they fed off each other and needed each other.

In other words, I believe, had the CIA not existed the KGB would have quickly become ineffective and the communist world would have quickly failed. Communism is self defeating, but we confused it with fascism which must be fought.

So, it is my belief that the west had a winning message and fighting to win the cold war just confused that message.

We have proven throughout history that we will overlook the abuse on human rights within a country as long as their leader's economic policies are beneficial to america.

I like living in this country, but people actually do not understand why people in the middle east and other parts of the world HATE the US. But we all know it is because those towel heads hate our freedoms
