Even the most misguided spirit can stumble upon truth once in awhile. There is no doubt that culture has an impact upon an individuals success or failure. It is also no secret that many modern elements of african-american culture are self destructive, John McWhorter has written at length on this subject and I highly recommend his work:

I am not being racist. Yes I can be racist in some of my posts as a joke or to push buttons...but the facts i'm bringing up is not racist. Just because its about the black community you assume its racist.

Blacks in England are no different then whites. Interacial realtionships are found everywhere. They work just as hard as the next guy. maybe some of 'you people' should follow that as an example

^^Absoutely. There's a difference between that and what Golovko's saying. I'm disappointed that you're encouraging him by supporting him.

^You're not bringing up facts. You haven't posted a fact yet. You're just being racist. So much of what you've posted is so ridiculously ignorant that I'm not even gonna waste my time on you.

LOL because someone my age can't afford nice things on his own I guess you probably think she bought me my house too! Yes my great grandmother could have bought me a nice car and a nice house etc etc...She was actually someone of great importance in my country.

here is some history for you so you know what kind of family i come from...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ester_Fanous < that is my great grandmothers sister. I spent all my summers as a child in her house. So yes I don't come from a cotton picking, slave background. And i'm not black either.

And as far as 'fashion' to 'music', yes i admit a great majority of the people follow the black culture. I am proud to say that I don't. I don't wear jeans 4 sizes too big and walk with them down around my ankles. I don't say Ight and Ax. I don't listen to rap and put chrome wheels on my car...or spinners...i don't wear a hat thats crooked or backwards...and I can go on and on with this list....but you get the point.

glad you brought up Oprah...now thats a roll model a lot of black people should follow. Self-made, extremly generous and giving. Hell, she even puts a lot of white people to shame. Good for her! :thumbs up:

i'm not commenting on whether or not the managers of the business in question were being racist. i don't know enough about that specific situation.

however, a noose is not at all an inherently racist symbol. it could be in certain contexts, but not generally.

my grand mother was of great importance to me to and thre's no telling how great she may have been to this country if she weren't viewed as property , and maybe she would have written a simular letter that your grandmother did but if anyone were to find out wshe could read she'd be killed

When you think of a noose what comes to mind 1st? The intent had to have racist motives, although I wholly disagree with many who have condemned white people in general in this thread.

^^and this guy fails to realize that the Egyptian people didn't fall off the face of the earth. Arabs invaded Egypt and converted a huge portion of the population. Mostly the peasant folk because they couldn't afford the taxes. Just another way Arabs/Islamic invaders converted people was by placing high taxes on Christians. But you knew that already judging by your very well thoughtout and educated previous posts. We are still Egyptians and we have very different physical characteristics to Arabs.

I bet you also think Turks are Arabs too? since their main religion is Islam.

and they didn't 'colonize' Egypt because there was already a civilization established here Like I said before...we weren't running around in little nomad tribes, half naked.

Oh wait...most of them probably don't even know where the fuck Africa is, yet they want to be called African Americans "

I don't think you realize the amount of racism blacks have to put up with before they get to the point where they make a big deal out of things like that.

Blacks didn't "come to the US" they were brought here as slaves. I don't get how this fundamental aspect of this issue doesn't register with you.

You obviously recognize that black culture has some negative aspects that are holding it back, but what caused these things, and why aren't they present in other minority populations?

Do you think blacks are solely responsible for their cultural development, when for a good 100 years after slavery supposedly ended, blacks STILL were heavily oppressed in American society?

I like how the author of the article gets to decide the context in which the neuse was being used. The word "vicious" just adds to the idiocy.

Statements like this show that you either have very little life experience or you don't really think about the things that you're told. Furthermore, it is degrading to the people that you're trying to side with.

Go buy a house in the ghetto and you'll learn pretty quickly that people with no power in the world you live in can be in a great position of power in their world. Hell, I'll be glad to drop you off in one of the neighborhoods on the south side of Alston Ave in Durham one day if you want the quick refresher course in power.

Aside from the physical aspects of power are the ability to attract media attention and file lawsuits. You don't have to prove anything to ruin someone's career/life.

This is not the first noose-at-work case. There've been others, and the settlements have been hefty. You guys can say it's not a racist symbol all damn day, but the people who matter believe it is. Maybe you should ask yourselves why so many people disagree with you.

That was an out of court settlement. Nobody decided anything, other than the company deciding that it was worth the money to settle. They certainly were not found guilty by a judge or jury.

The details aren't given in the article, but they may not have even conceded guilt.

I think the reason I am so pissed off by the CNN article is because they, as the nonbiased news organization (yea right, I know), immediately take the "omg bleeding heart liberal" stance and used words like "a vicous, racist symbol" as their own opinion. Notice in the article that it's the reporter's words who say it....

Quote :
"NEW YORK (CNN) -- James Jackson, a 26-year-old black employee of 180 Connect, was preparing for another day of installing cable, telephone and Internet service to residential customers of Cablevision in Nassau County, New York on December 7.

When he walked to the fenced-off area to pick up equipment for the day's jobs he looked up and was shocked to see a vicious, racist symbol in his workplace."

Why couldn't they just have said the facts? A rope, tied into a noose shape, was hanging from the workplace entrance. Black people were offended... end of story?

Bingo. And it could be an insult by suggesting that someone ought to kill themself. If I walked to my office and some fucker hung a noose in my office, I'd be livid. And I'm white.
I think the news article is poorly written and racial connections were made too soon.

Here in the USA = Racist symbol, rest of the world = different meaning. Just like everything else

I don't care what way you look at it.

Im willing to bet that blacks were hung more than any other race here in America. Not to mention the whole 'lynching' thing...

But Im not willing to argue this, it's far pointless.
