it all depends on what changes in the final standard. Broadcom gambled on this with 802.11g, and was able to make it fully compliant via firmware. But IEEE is scheduled to fully ratify 802.11n in April 2008. So there's the possibility that the difference btw pre-standard 802.11n and the eventual IEEE standard will require chip level changes, which can't be addressed via firmware.1/9/2007 1:37:57 PM |

5 hours of play/talk time - most phones on the market are at that level if not lower - with a few days in standby....i doubt this phone will see a lot of standby for the first month at least from most users ] 1/9/2007 1:46:14 PM |

499 and 599 $$
The 5hr batt life is for the bluetooth headset talk time.
The phone has 16 hours for music, and like 2day standby time.

haha, that sucks Bobby I just bought my smartphone like 5 months ago, I feel ya
and whoever said it's a full blown iPod in a phone, wrong-o. This thing is SO far from being an iPod. Shove a 30+GB hard drive in there, and now you have an iPod. Guess how many flicks you can hold on 8GB? Not many.
The HDD size limitation is huge in my mind...sure, trendy teens won't care, but it needs massive amounts of storage to be used like they're saying.
If not, then show me a widescreen iPod that just does iPod things. Still can't believe Apple is using these antiquated iPods...seriously 1/9/2007 2:10:05 PM |

If 8GB was enough, no one would buy 80GB iPods.
My point is this: if Apple isn't putting a big HDD in the iPhone, cool.
But unveil a widescreen iPod to compensate...seriously, it makes no sense other than "one more thing" would've been too much and potentially stolen some of the limelight 1/9/2007 2:13:36 PM |

i think they made it too thin, it doesn't look like it would be very comfortable to use as a phone, they should've made it a little thicker and given it longer battery life and more storage capacity

wow. I'm seriously considering buying this phone.
To me, 8gb is fine. I bring my iPod with me and use it in the car/at work/etc, I don't need a phone for that.
What I DO need the phone for is syncing with my mac without lots of hassle/etc. I want to see iChat on here as well as the text feature they have, then I'll be sold.
On second thought, I'm sold already, iChat would just be a nice addition (unless it already has iChat on it?).
As soon as I can afford the phone + associated increased monthly bill, I'm down with this.

^^ It has a HD, but as of now, it's not an open platform. It only interoperates with iTunes out of the box, which means H.264 video and mp3/aac/wav audio.
It'll probably take a while before people hack it, or Apple releases and SDK.
It also uses an IR remote, so any universal remote should be programmable for it.
