^^ yes, because they are too busy ACTUALLY PLAYING THE SPORT, and preparing for it
unlike the NBA or NFL where the players complain about practice and try to be the star
in hockey you just see how teams work together like clockwork

^^ If you can prove that there are anywhere CLOSE to the amount of drug or gun related arrests/incidents from NHL players compared to NBA players you would have an argument. However, you can't... and you don't.
No one is being racist and half these people probably aren't even from the South.

Hmmm a rather interesting conversation here. I, however don't it's a fair assessment to say that hockey players' don't deal in illegal drugs (Marajuana) because they're too involved with the sport itself. That's definitely not an intelligent backing whatsoever.
If this argument were to move forward, I think you would have to compare the following;
Football to Hockey Both allow violent contact with padding.
As far as crimes: Violent Crimes- includes pretty much everything. assault, drugs etc

Sean Burke hit his wife and was promptly shipped out of here.
The Mike Danton scandal was absolute madness.
The instigator rule has encouraged some dangerous play.
Theo Fleury got problems.
Many hockey players, particularly during the playoffs, are on heavy painkillers and cortisone so they can play. Frank Kaberle said he couldn't even move his leg every morning during the playoffs until he got his treatments, let alone skate or play.
This thread was not intended to be a comparison between hockey and other sports. It was simply to point out that the lack of honor and discipline that leads to uncontrolled fighting in baseball/basketball/football/water polo is not the same kind of emotion that goes into a hockey fight. They're two completely different things. 1/19/2007 6:06:11 PM |

You guys have no argument at all. You basically just wanted to say that the NBA and NFL are
full of lazy, drug dealing, egotistical cry babies. And hockey players are perfect guys (white) that
do no wrong and only go out there and play the game, don't deal in drugs so they on the other

There are 13 black players currently on active NHL rosters, and 10 more on minor league affiliate teams. The number fluctuates due to the nature of hockey's farm system.
It's also worth noting that the NHL was first integrated in 1958. 1/19/2007 7:56:37 PM |

you are a fucking moron you think we are racist because we are just pointing out the obvious about the nba I have no problem with the nfl though, i like the nfl, and true, the nfl does have some of the similar problems with its players as the nba, but face it, not as many proportionately as the nba, and those that do are better about keeping it quiet than the nba players. So please tell me how we are racist for pointing out the facts that you just want to ignore, but everyone already knows. 1/19/2007 9:21:33 PM |

The following is a nationality breakdown for the entire NHL: Canada 389 US 134 Czech Rep 50 Sweden 42 Finland 32 Russia 31 Slovakia 23 Germany 7 Ukraine 7
"White people can do no harm. " You made a statement earlier about the crowd from the south being racist. That sure does seem like a racist comment if you ask me.

Good article about fighting in the major pro sports in America:
http://sportsline.com/spin/story/9878541
This paragraph is particularly relevant.
Quote : | " Hockey fans always fall back on the fact that fighting is just a part of hockey culture. No, it isn't. Players don't fight in college, and they don't fight in the Olympics. Fighting helps sell tickets. Period. And the NHL doesn't actually have sufficient penalties to keep the players from fighting. If they did, it would pretty much stop. But the NHL needs the money and fans they gain by allowing fighting. There is no comparison to how stringently the NBA militates against fighting as opposed to the NHL. And if the NHL was a majority black league, the public outcry would demand an end to hockey fights. But two white athletes fighting are unthreatening, marketable and highlight-reel worthy. Great, says the average fan, pass me another beer, and maybe, a cotton candy for the kid. Two black guys fighting? My God, lock up the women and children and batten down the hatches. The Apocalypse is nigh." |

College hockey doesn't allow fighting, but junior hockey does, and junior is where the majority of professional hockey players come from. College and Olympic hockey are not a fully accurate representation of the culture of the North American game.
Plus, I find it hard to believe that there haven't been plenty of Brashear/Worrell/Laraque scraps, etc.
