yeah double bubble is nice. 600rr is a very uncomfortable bike, prolly the most uncomfortable sport bike I've ever sat on. But they are good bikes. 1/24/2007 1:23:07 PM |

I think the fun factor on the rr's makes up, if not surpass, the un-comfortability (if that's really a word) of the seat.
^that r6 is clean, and is fi.

After 20 mins of riding, my ass starts to hurt, but I guess you have more fat on you. I'm all skin and bones. But I when I wear full leathers, it makes it a lot more comfortable. So I wear the pants.

you definitely want to take a hard look at an f4/f4i then. it wasn't the lap of luxery, but mine was very tolerable on longer rides. much better than other sport bikes i've ridden.
fwiw, i'm roughly the same size as you. 6'1" 185lbs. for someone in the 6 ft. range, the lower peg height of the honda really pays off for extended cruising. you start feeling like your knees are crammed into your chin after a while on gixxers, rr's, etc.1/24/2007 4:03:28 PM |
toyotafj40s All American 8649 Posts user info edit post |
no i am polish. my mom's maiden name was mikawitz but it is spelled much longer. my dad is also part polish.
so that makes me ~75% polish you half br33d
yeah i would look into a gsxr600 they are comfy.
im 6 1 and 170-5 and my knees dont start to ache on the rr. what does ache are my wrists after about an hour, my throttle wrist will hurt, and no i dont put all my weight on them.
try a 01+ gixxer they seem comfy and big.
or look into a sv650, no doubt faster than the katana, can be had for cheap and plenty of fun. i miss mine at times. VERY COMFY.

^yeah, the sv's are a very comfortable cruising position, yet you can still crouch into it for curves. same thing with the suzuki bandit. imo, your gixxer was pretty damn uncomfortable. the seat was nice and wide, but i didn't really like the peg position. are the 01+ different? haven't been on one. 1/24/2007 5:20:37 PM |

yea 01+ is different.. oh forgot about the wide seat other than that it wasnt bad. well compared to the rr!
for overal comfort and corner carving sv650. now if you like going faster than 115-120, dont get an sv. 1/24/2007 5:24:06 PM |

you know what's worse than wrecking a bike?
wrecking a bike that you owe money on .
I think it's a bad idea to finance on bikes. if you get hurt in an accident and cant work you'll get owned.
try to buy something out right. if you cant right now just ride the kat around a little longer, it's not going to kill yah! only make you a better rider. 1/24/2007 9:08:31 PM |

Go with a 600....i went from a yzf600 to a gsxr6 and its a huge difference, and moving up from a katana will be an even bigger difference....i wanted to go 750, but couldnt justify almost double the insurance cost for it in my case...

if you want to become really good at riding, stick with a slower bike that will MAKE YOU get faster in the turns and find your limits. i find i could ride the sv650 a lot faster than the 600rr a lot more easily. Granted my sv had aftermarket springs and a bunch of aftermarket go-fast bits since it was once a track bike. man i miss it.
although this is coming from me, the guy who wants to get a 1000 i4.
^is that your new bike? what happened to ur dual sport?
you could get a super hawk. i almost picked up an awesome one for 2800 but i got the rr instead..
man that woulda been a fun bike.
the 'ol sv i had:
it was a very fun bike. i WOULD own another.
maybe pick one up as a track bike so jbaz and i can kick ass on the track.

I used to hear Duke say this a lot and i was like whatever. well i would consider 600's fast and the previous twins i had relatively slow. i learned much more on the twins! you have to be good in the turns on the twins bc they really cant keep up in the straights if your jack ass friends decide to open the 600's, 750's, 1000's up 1/25/2007 1:31:23 PM |

do you have the super hawk on campus with dual yoshi's? if so i saw u park at nelson today. i park my rr there, u wouldnt tell though bc all the posers fucking bought the 600rr's this year.

yeah, there's more to riding fast than getting crazy lean angles...but you can be pretty certain that he's slow if he's scared to lean it over. 1/25/2007 2:55:31 PM |

^So true Duke. Heh, I still have about 1mm of untouched rubber on my bike's tires on each side, but I know guys that get their knee down all the time that I can still leave in the dust simply because they don't know how to take the proper line through a turn. Leaning helps up to a point, but eventually it's just like stunting...cool but doesn't really help speed that much.
And yes, I've had a knee down, it just doesn't happen on a regular basis yet 1/25/2007 4:24:41 PM |

1mm cmon man 1/25/2007 4:27:37 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52840 Posts user info edit post |
if you're leaning it that far, the reason you're not getting a knee down isn't lack of lean angle. it's that you're not hanging off as far. i used to have the same "problem"...i'm only about 5'8", so my knee doesn't reach out as far, and my leathers were about a size too small, so I was restricted a little in how far i could hang a knee out there. I was dragging GSX-R pegs on a regular basis.
and that brings up another thing...you ride that hard on the street on a regular basis, and you're probably gonna end up trashing motorcycles (and maybe yourself). it took 4 wrecks for me, but I finally learned to dial it back just a click or so. i'll still haul ass on a bike, but at like 8/10 instead of 9-9.5/10.
oh, and in addition to running the proper line, running fast into the corner and braking late, accelerating all of the way through the corner (unlike a car), and getting WOT applied as soon as possible past the apex makes a huge difference in how fast you cover real estate. you can have massive lean angles and not be very fast...it's just that if you won't lean it over, you will most certainly be slow. 1/25/2007 4:30:41 PM |

Ryan there isn't going to be much of a difference in insurance between an SV1000s and an RC51... they are both in the 1000cc category. I've been really impressed with my SV650s and it's not that heavy for what it is. If you wanted fuel injection, you'd have to get an '03 or newer, although I don't find carbureted bikes annoying at all. The seat is 31.7" on my '01 and the second generation are 31.5," but you're welcome to sit on it and see how it feels if you like. I'll probably be out and about most of Saturday if you wanted to meet up 1/26/2007 5:38:40 AM |
