^sure there is. its taken out pre-tax
2/2/2007 12:41:17 PM
Exactly. Also, I have an emergency fund for emergencies.
2/2/2007 12:47:32 PM
your emergency fund probably won't cover any real emergency, and pre-tax savings aren't going to seem all that appealing when you find yourself having to scrounge up money in the event of an emergency such as a major medical operation. it's good to invest in 401k if your have employer matching, but there are better investment options available.Personally, I want to open up my own company at some point in the future, and that is going to take capital to pull off. you can qualify for loans a lot easier with tangible assets than you can with 401k assets.
2/2/2007 2:18:24 PM
Wow, that's pretty impressive that you know how much he has in his emergency fund!!!
2/2/2007 2:26:31 PM
haha, what the hell?
2/2/2007 2:31:14 PM
if he's bitching about not being able to net over 50k and bitching about paying taxes on investments, then he doesn't have a large pile of taxable cash just sitting around. use a little common sense before you post again.
2/2/2007 2:32:48 PM
FYI: I have a very large pile of taxable cash sitting around. My insurance will cover any major medical operation. If it won't, then I don't think it matters that I invested in my 401K if I have 500K in medical bills.
2/2/2007 2:42:38 PM
unless you have some premium insurance plan, then insurance will usually only pay 75-80% of your major medical expenses.[Edited on February 2, 2007 at 2:45 PM. Reason : and yes, it does matter where you invest your money if you can't touch it without heavy penalties]
2/2/2007 2:44:44 PM
Well then, it's a good thing I have that pile of cash sitting around.
2/2/2007 2:45:21 PM
your big pile of cash is imaginary, or else you suck at investing.
2/2/2007 2:46:08 PM
It is not imaginary and I do not suck at investing.
2/2/2007 2:47:30 PM
then you're just a dumbass
2/2/2007 2:48:54 PM
Why do you say that?
2/2/2007 2:49:27 PM
cause your big pile of uninvested cash isn't even keeping up with inflation, even though you supposedly know how to invest money. meanwhile you're investing money into a 401k plan that you can't touch and will eventually have to pay taxes on just because not paying taxes now seems like a good thing.
2/2/2007 2:51:47 PM
It is keeping up with inflation.
2/2/2007 2:52:25 PM
yep, you're definitely a dumbass.
2/2/2007 2:55:10 PM
wow, someone (or more) sure is defensive.[Edited on February 2, 2007 at 3:02 PM. Reason : d]
