ok, so thats 4,031,932 $/pound divided by 453.5924 (# of grams/1 pound) is 8,889 $/gram you can multiple that by 0.03527 (# of grams/1 ounce) and you get 313.5 $/ounce
i'm going to go with some type of oil, perfume, or a beauty product (like eye cream made from unicorn horns, or something)

Answers and comments:
1 - Or something tottally ordinary that is some how "special" ---- Yes.
2 - Yes, in a mall.
3 - Anybody who said saffron, truffles, or caviar, is a moron. I said no food, and even then, do these food items really cost millions per pound? Or a thousandth of that?
4 - Not tobacco, but let's work in that direction!
5 - Not from animal or human source, but is organic... DUH. (because no precious metal comes near)
6 - Carpets are not sold by weight!
7 - Anybody who said platinum is also a moron. I told you that rhodium is the most expensive precious metal, and even at 5x the cost of platinum, it is still 100x less than this item I saw. And BTW, if a SOLID PLATINUM COMMODE wouldn't cut it, how would a platinum plated one?
8 - Not drugs or anything illegal.
9 - Not a beauty product.
10 - Not an oil/perfume, but we can work in that direction!
11 - ^^ You messed up on the last part of your calculation. You should have done 8,889 $/gram divided by 0.03527 ounces/gram (yes, that's oz/g, not g/oz), or 8,889 $/gram multiplied by 28.35 grams/ounce. But, how come you don't know that there are 16 ounces in one pound???? Simply divide the cost/pound by 16. That gives USD 251,996/oz.

The first things that came to mind is incense, but not even agarwood is close to that much. If it's sold in the mall, then at $9 per mg, it has to come in a very small quantity. Something like a medication or a vitamin is the only thing I can think of...no sé 1/29/2007 5:43:35 AM |

hey, not all malls are cheap
of course, it is not sold in mg quantities... but in grams. the salesperson told me a certain prince typically buys 30 g, because that comes to a round 1,000,000 riyals. (USD 266,667)
but, you are getting very warm. 1/29/2007 5:49:01 AM |

I'm going to imagine it's some kind of essential oil that you burn, or add to a fire or something.
That said- if it's a true essential oil those things aren't cheap- but it widely varies depending on what the oil is and how pure and how concentrated it is.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's from some kind of rare flower (perhaps a specific KIND of rose or orchid?), because the specific breeds of those can be $texas and it takes a lot of them to make such oil. 1/29/2007 10:35:16 AM |

Alright, this is my guess.
It is a flower. The Titan Arum or "Corpse Flower" which only blooms a few times in it's ~40 year life span. It is known for its smell of rotting meat which is the most pungent about 20 hours after blooming. While in bloom the tip of the flower warms up to around the temperature of the human body.
apparently it's pretty rare so I'd imagine it would be expensive although I couldnt find how much a mature 'corpse flower' would cost.
that's all I got. 1/29/2007 4:17:37 PM |
