Secondly, Wlfpk4Life, your ad hominem:

Quote :
"Wlfpk4Life: Wow, you read some books! How could I ever question your academic prowess?"

Quote :
"Wlfpk4Life: ^^ Never said I was an attorney, but as somebody who worked in banking I think you're a fucking idiot. I don't give a shit about a case here or there, you obviously have no working concept of how loans work, no matter how hard you try to be some kind of pseudo social scientist.

Your tired but predictable responses to any and everybody who disagrees with you further establishes the fact that you will never fool anybody into thinking that you're some great and thoughtful intellect or the white savioress of the ever downtrodden black man, that despite your contrarian anecdotes and fictional stories, has made great strides in our society, and all without your help."

is unwelcome. I acknowledge I used a dose when I asked if you were really an attorney, but meh...

Okay...so that leaves a little less than a dozen comments to respond to, and I'm going to try to get them all in just a few paragraphs. This is good practice for me. This discussion has kinda fragmented so I have to respond to some things in the context of "class/culture v. race" and others in their own individual contexts. I've started with the simplest responses, and I intend to continue that trend so I doubt I'll be tackling the class/culture v. race tonight (I'm also trying to get hammered right now.) I keep wrapping my head just barely around it, but then I lose it. Bear with me, folks.

(I just saw hooksaw post, and he normally only sticks to the celebrity/Dem bashing shit, but just in case he posts here, I'm preemptively denying him a response now.)

I read that as we weren't responding, not that you weren't going to.

Obviously, racism still exists. But these days, I see classism becoming more of a problem than racism. It seems that a lot of people don't care what color their neighbors are--just so long as they fit a certain social paradigm and are not poor.

OKAY, I GOT IT!!! SO NONE OF YOU SMARTY PANTS COME IN AND STEAL THIS AWAY FROM ME.

I got so caught up with the premise and the responses, but it was staring me right in the face. State409c touched on it, but he didn't go far enough in the right direction. ssclark actually touched on it, too, without realizing it.

I think you have issues with clarity here, as well. Regardless, I apologize for the mix-up.

I think the problem is the one that you have with sentence fragments.

I'm sorry that the color of your skin prevented you from getting a proper education.

"Most places just pay a fine and have to take classes on doing better next time. Many times, there's a settlement involved, too.

My concern here is that someone has to file a complaint for anything to be done. They barely monitor real estate agents and agencies for compliance with the law. If someone is discriminated against, but they feel like they can't prove it, and they don't want to deal with the hassle, then nothing gets done about the situation. And the real esate agencies go on, business as usual"

if there is suspicion of it many brokers in charge will fire you on the spot, there are too many licensed RE agents to deal with it

and if you do get in trouble for it, not only will you LOSE your license, your name and reputation will be ruined...

I can lose my license, but I'll be damned if I want my name ruined in the real estate business, I have even bigger plans down the road

Okay, so here's my response to y'all's "it's class, not race" argument...

There are more poor white people than poor black people. But a huge majority of people in prison are black. This is evidence of racism to me. Unless you expect me to believe only poor black people commit crimes and poor white people do not.

the important distinction is between institutional and personal.

the cops arresting the people probably arent racist. but the laws that say stealing a 200 dollar tv is worth a bigger punishement than stealing 200,000 from where you work are.

"ssclark: I disagree that the public education system and criminal justice system persecutes blacks because it's there decision. You say, well there's a cycle created by poor schools not getting the funding they need, and there for becoming even more poor etc. But the fact is books exist even in poor schools. Worse case scenario, children wanting to get ahead in poor neighborhoods have to take it on themselves to get out."

I think lack of funding is an issue, but I'm no fool. No amount of money for schools can "fix" what goes on outside the classroom and before the age of 5. That's why I want public subsidized day-care and preschool for anybody who wants it.

But a huge majority of people in prison are black criminals. criminals are thrown in jail, not black people

^ I dont really see how what I said pertains to preschoolers, but I agree with that statement.

^You were talking about kids not performing well in school. I think we need public-subsidized preschools so kids don't have to start out way behind their classmates.

See, its a "Jump to Conclusions" mat.

It has different "conclusions" written on it that you "jump to".
