Too bad the game isnt in raleigh, we should start back with the most famous dirty chant of all time directed towards Rashad McCants > "OR-AL HERPIES". That pissed off national media and made Stuart Scott comment about it on SC the following morning. Plus that was the year we swept them before Roy came into the picture.....
If Atsur plays like he did against VT, then we have a decent shot. We just need an answer to Lawson. I think McCauley showed he can hang with HandsBorg. Im not too scared of the matchups for Fells, Grant, or Costner either.
Im prepared to be pissed at the reffing and announcing as usual when we play over there. All my tarhole peers at work claimed that last game was "seriously bad reffing in favor of state" and I wouldnt be shocked to see us get screwed bigtime in the Smith Sodomy Center on wednesday.
HandsBorg will get away with the traveling he is already famous for getting away with because they actually called him on it when they played us athome. They will have it all worked out to favor him in Chapel Hell. Be ready for it.2/19/2007 11:19:23 AM |

I'm pretty sure the STD chant was Roy's first year, and we lost that game. Could be wrong, my memory is shot to hell, but I think McHerpe dropped 30-something on us that game too. 2/19/2007 11:21:38 AM |

How sweet it would be to sweep UNC and jeopardize their #1 seed in the NCAA tourney.
Hopefully this will be seen on Wednesday night, along with a collection of students surrounding it.

we aren't on the bubble for the NCAA tournament
we aren't playing in it unless we win the ACC tournament
and if you are talking about the NIT, do not call it the bubble 2/19/2007 10:13:38 PM |

if we won the rest of our games in the regular season and won a game or two at the acc tourney, we're in. but that's a pretty tall order. that would put us at 18-11 (8-8) for the regular season with a couple of acc tournament wins on top of that. 2/19/2007 10:21:27 PM |
spro All American 4329 Posts user info edit post |
you're saying that if the pack wins out and wins a game in the first round, then it wouldn't get serious consideration for the tournament?
that will probably put the team at a better conference mark than both ga tech and florida state, who are both getting serious run as bubble teams right now, but granted, who will both probably be out anyways
i mean, it's a long shot
like long as a light year
but if we win the next five, with two over carolina and two over va tech, one over maryland, and one over michigan - state would have the 'quality wins' everybody rambles on about
i can dream 2/19/2007 10:24:02 PM |

bullshit, if we were to go 8-8 in the acc with 2 wins over UNC and VTECH plus a couple of wins in the ACCT, there's no way we aren't in 2/19/2007 10:28:16 PM |

michigan is not a quality win anymore. it was at the time, but now everyone knows they're bad. your situation becomes a lot more likely if we go more than one deep in the acc tourney. still probably requires winning out, though. a tall order indeed. 2/19/2007 10:29:38 PM |

Win the ACC tournament.

true, but ncaa is better than nit.
win out (and through acc tournament) I'd think a 5-7 would be possible. that's what, 22-11?, finishing the season with 9 wins in a row. not like that is possible, but hey 2/19/2007 10:46:39 PM |

After an embarassing, awful loss to Wake Forest in the ACC tournament, getting our asses kicked by every good team in the ACC, yeah. This year's it's like the opposite. Beating good teams, losing to bad ones. It's confounding.2/19/2007 10:50:34 PM |
Aristotle Suspended 2231 Posts user info edit post |
people are forgetting that they will be disgarding our losses without atsur. (6) and the fact that they pay close attention to how you finish, how well you play when you're on (beating vt by 25) and even something as small as in-game injuries (horner vs gt atsur vs bc and uva)
7-9 with a win in the acc will get us consideration. we would need most of the auto bids to go to at large teams and could maybe sneak in. we would be serious bubble a team like that sneaks in ever year.
8-8 with a win in the acc or 7-9 with 2 wins would get us a nice buble but a team like that gets left out every year and we still would need no chaos in the midmajor tournies.
8-8 with 2 wins and we're a lock 2/19/2007 10:50:49 PM |
Crede All American 7339 Posts user info edit post |
8-8 is a pipe dream. It could happen, but to give it serious consideration is fooling ourselves. Our best bet is 7-9 and ACC semifinals, but at that point NCSU would probably need the ACC championship game to make any amount of noise. 2/19/2007 10:53:03 PM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
Quote : | "people are forgetting that they will be disgarding our losses without atsur. (6)" |
No they won't. They don't (I'm not sure if you were trying to say "discard" or "disregard") any losses, but they will take the injury into account. You don't just get a pass for playing shitty if 1 player is injured.
Quote : | "even something as small as in-game injuries (horner vs gt atsur vs bc and uva)" |
I'm almost certian they don't do that. You telling me they look at every game by all (let's say 20) bubble teams to see if they should get in? And if they did that they would have to also look at the in game injuries to the "locks" to determine where they should be seeded.
Besides, an injury to Horner is almost addition by subtraction.2/19/2007 10:58:06 PM |

after every big win like this all the pipe dream hopefuls start popping back up......I would love to see us go to the NCAAs, especially because I would be going along with them if they did, but honestly we would have to be able to consistently play lights out, and solid on defense/rebounding, and we have only shown the ability to do that for three games so far this season. The first half of the Ga. Tech game was stellar as well but mental lapses are destroying our chances.... 2/19/2007 11:00:18 PM |

considering we were up 18 when he went down and gave up like 22 unanswered yes.
most players they might not completly disregard but if its your mvp and you only have 1pg and lose all the games because of turnovers only for him to come back and beat good teams then yes they definately do.
also don't forget most of the teams we're competing with won't have wins over people like unc and sweeps over people like vt. 2/19/2007 11:02:02 PM |
