No you are a Christian if you believe the only true way to get into heaven is to believe that Jesus is the son of God and our Savior.
Jesus said the only way to enter the Kingdom of Heaven is through him. Therefore you must believe and be baptized to be saved. 2/21/2007 2:15:48 PM |

judging implies subjectivity.
there's no subjectivity in pointing out the fallacy of claiming to believe in something, but actually believing something else. 2/21/2007 2:18:18 PM |

I didn't realize that mormonism allowed the type of free thought to individually diverge from documented beliefs.
Thanks for clearing that up. 2/21/2007 2:28:50 PM |

In theology, beliefs tend to manifest in three degrees: 1)Scripture 2)Doctrine 3)Personal feeling/interpretation
To me, it seems using these three views on your theology would be the easiest to really classify. Different religions are separated by scripture, denominations by doctrine, and people by personal beliefs and interpretations. I'll still admit that it isn't always clear-cut using this, but I doubt there is a black and white definition in any way of separating religions. 2/21/2007 2:28:59 PM |

Ok ok, without getting sidetracked into the whole Christianity discussion, the basic lesson of this thread is:
Figure out that you have irreconcilable differences in goals/beliefs (be they religious, career, etc.) before you get engaged.

Once you hit a certain age and commitment level you are supposed to wear certain church approved underwears. They are an effort to keep you modest and such. Quite long, men wearing undershit and long boxers. You have to wear these in order to go into the temple/mission and such. 2/21/2007 3:05:25 PM |

^^^ha. If I'm not already on double secret probation.
Sure, when you go to the temple you receive "garments." They serve as a reminder of the covenants you have made.
^^It's not really and age thing, but yes you would start wearing them after you have gone to the temple (for marriage and/or missionary work as you say).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_garment_(Mormonism)
Quote : | "The garment is thought to symbolize the "coats of skins" which Jehovah (Yahweh) made for Adam and Eve before casting them out of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:21). It is worn, in part, to remind adherents that they have made special oaths and covenants to God. Members of the LDS Church today are commonly clothed in the garments, together with outer temple clothing, for burial. The garment and the covenants made in conjunction with it are believed to be a spiritual "shield and protection" against the powers of evil (and sometimes against physical harm, according to some Latter-day Saints)." |
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Magic+Underwear
Quote : | "1. Magic Underwear 47 up, 25 down A garment worn by extremely devout followers of the the mormon cult. It is basically a set of long underwear but the mormons beleive it protects them from evil. Some peole might try and argue that it isn't called magic underwear but if it really protects you from evil then its gotta be magic.
You want an example? I donno, ask a mormon for one the next time one comes to your door to convert you.
2. magic underwear 34 up, 37 down Underwear of the mormon religion. Also known as Garments or simply G's. These Magic underwear give mormons the power of flight, invisibility, x-ray vision and gardening. Don't ask a mormon about his majic underwear or you will be attacked by an army of scary happy plastic robots
Man, good thing I had on my magic underwear, or I would have been killed when that steam-roller rolled over me." |

Would any Mormons care to correct me if I'm wrong in saying that these are some of the beliefs your church teaches:
1) your can become an all-powerful god of your own planet through "eternal progression" wherein your inhabitants will worship you just like we worship God (Elohim as you call him) here on this planet
2) Mary was not conceived of the Holy Spirit but rather by God himself coming to earth and impregnating her through sexual intercourse
3) Jesus was a polygamist and had several wives such as Mary, Martha, and Mary Magdelene 2/21/2007 3:16:49 PM |

1) Yes, you can derive that from our beliefs.
2) The official doctrine of the church on that matter is exactly what the scriptures say. Namely:
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Some members will give their own personal opinions on that matter, take things to the extreme, and say things like that. They are only offering their personal opinion though.
3) I've never heard this. Not even as an opinion from some of the more out there membership. 2/21/2007 3:25:41 PM |

Anyone who is strongly religious will have potential to not work out romantically with someone outsider their religion. It can become a big issue in raising children. Plus, religion is a REALLY big part of their lives, so it is kind of a big hurdle to get over. I personally doubt that I could be with someone who has clashing beliefs on an important subject as religion.
Quote : | "childish, isnt it? Oh and they just wanted divorces " |
Plenty of non-Catholic Christians believe divorce to not be an option. There are a number of other parts of the Catholic religion that people want to be distanced from.

Every time mormoms book contradicts itself they change it and say the previous translation was flawed...
Also I have heard that the Golden plates were 175-225 pounds based on dimensions given. Others claim they weight 30-60 lbs.
Quote : | "A solid gold block of totaling 288 cubic inches would weigh a little over 200 pounds.... But the plates would weigh much less than a solid block of the same metal. The unevenness left by the hammering and air spaces between the separate plates would reduce the weight to probably less than 50 percent of the solid block." |
Ok so why would they hammer metal plates with inscriptions. Thats just silly...
He was said to carry them all over in a pillow case I believe.
