I think Raleigh was perfect 15 years ago - now it's just too sprawled out. You're just constantly having to drive everywhere and then encountering all these new strip malls and cookie-cutter subdivisions. I got mentally drained by the monotony of it all. We all know where Raleigh is headed - it will become Charlotte, then Atlanta, then Houston. Those are very poorly planned cities; this is not a good thing.

A lot of people my age moved to Brooklyn, where it is really no longer possible to afford a house, or Portland, which is very nice but completely overrun with hipsters. Personally I am most attracted to cities like Philly, St. Louis, Baltimore, Louisville - places where you can live in a real diverse city on the cheap.

People have different priorities, but it's important evaluate where you stand on quality of life issues rather than just where you think you can find a job.

Hah, try living in Creedmoor for 18 years. I had to drive to Raleigh every weekend if I wanted to do anything.

Philly is nice. Rita's waterice, tasty cakes, and soft pretzels. I wish we had wawas down here.

i work on centennial, but luckily my job allows me to do a lot of traveling. all this traveling gives me interesting perspectives on the places that i go. i really think raleigh is the place to be. there are a lot of jobs, the cost of living is pretty low, traffic isn't bad, beach mountains etc. but it really took me to travel before i realized all of this.

^ I know what you mean. I think I'm going to end up making that 'discovery' for myself. I'm looking hard at a job in a more rural area than raleigh (not rural exactly, but much more than ral) but with a fair amount of travel.

Hopefully only work there a few years, and then who knows. I'm still craving to spend some time in CA for some reason, just gotta work it out job-wise. I had a friend visit San Jose and take a bunch of pics on my camera!
