Let's not use that argument, shall we? First, because everyone knows that the access that you're given to a candidate a $15 BBQ and the access that you're given to a candidate at a high dollar fundraiser are completely different. If you're suggesting otherwise, you're either being disingenuous or naïve.

Moreover, right before that $15 get together, Edwards had a bigger birthday fundraiser at his old law firm (Kirby & Holt) for a $500 minimum. He'll hold another high dollar fundraiser at the NC Academy of Trial Lawyers on Monday and then on Figure 8 Island on June 30.

Obama's been holding low-dollar fundraisers (like his upcoming $25 fundraiser in San Antonio, TX), but he's not holding one in NC for reasons that ought to be amazingly transparent.

I knew it was coming, they sent out their message on the 2nd quarter drawing to a close in 12 days.

They have to do well in this quarter to do well in Iowa. They’ve put most of their marbles in Iowa. If they win there, ahead of Hillary & Obama in a first caucus state, then they have the footing to run with the big dogs, get the big donors, get tons of free media coverage, and no longer be thought of as the bottom end of the top 3 since they’ll have won the first race. It’s basically Iowa or bust.

So far they, of the top 3, have relied heaviest on the small guys. Even big news agencies like CNN have run articles how they are courting the low level donors the most. I know this to be the case from personal experience by attending a $15 BBQ meet & greet with Edwards rather than the typical 2000 dollar dinner to meet and speak to a presidential candidate. I know others have done low level donor courting, but not on the same level, not on the level that gets national media coverage.

This is the only campaign I’ve ever given to before, and I’m thinking of doing it again one last time before the 30th. They either make it in Iowa or go home, but now more than ever small donations will have the largest possible impact.

i don't know where you get this from. more than half of all of the major candidate's money come from $2000 or more donations. (see my charts above)

I'm not saying small donations will be the biggest amount out there.

I'm saying out of all the times you coudl give small donations, now is when it makes the most since to.

With the Edwards campaign, they’ve got a big gamble with Iowa, where it’ll pay off nicely in free media attention, public perception, and bringing in more donors if they win because they will seem much more viable. Right now they still have time to invest more in Iowa, and it’s just before a big public campaign finance mark being the end of the 2nd quarter. Down the road once more & bigger donors are involved and bigger money is coming in, then small money isn't as important. And, I'm basing this off what CNN has pointed out, the Edwards campaign is courting (& hoping to have available to rely on) small money heavier than the others right now.

My point was their campaign is courting low level contributors. He pointed out technically they haven’t received the most yet in that area.

I did respond by editing my post, the last sentence he was referring to, to include the name of my source for them courting low level contributors, and changed the words “relying on low level contributors” to something like hoping to have available to rely on small money from a lot of people.

I did respond, you may just not have noticed because I did so while still in the edit post time frame rather than doing a whole new post.

I was talking more about my post than sarijoul's, but whatever, I don't think you've really addressed either.

Edwards isn't courting small donors any more than any other candidate in the field (particularly Obama and McCain, as sarijoul's graphs point out)...just because CNN isn't reporting it, doesn't mean it's not happening. According to his website, Obama's doing kick-offs in Texas (San Antonio), Minnesota and Alabama for $25 ($15 for students).

I think Edwards' supporters are just excited to have a 2008 story with their candidate's name in the headline.
