Is there anyway to find out wind conditions for the next few days? I don't want to go to the beach only to find out I wasted money on a hotel when the wind conditions don't even favor kiteboarding.

NOAA is normally pretty good about the forecast. The biggest problem is that the winds can change so fast though.

http://www.surfchex.com has a camera and wind meter right there at the south end of WB and is good for the current wind speed.

That WB site is pretty cool but I don't think I"m ready to ride on waves yet seeing as how I can't even control the kite yet. I might have to try the inlands of the outer banks first until I get up and riding. The guy at kitty hawk kiteboarding said that if the kite drops and the waves hit it then there could be a lot of damage done.

I've put my kite down in the surf a good number of times and haven't had major damage done to it.

Also the majority of the days the jetty down at the southend of WB blocks most all the swell and current. There will still be some waves to deal with but you can body drag out 50ft and be past all the surf.

I am looking at coming back down this Friday. The guy last time said I should stick to WB as a newbie but I like the shallowness of the basin. Since Friday looks to be a 15-20 and then 10-15 wind day which place would you recommend?

it is going to be a north wind on friday so you will probably want to head to the north end of WB and work from there. If you went down to the basin the wind would be offshore. With what the forecast is showing it would be best to get out early as the north winds around here tend to die as the day goes on.

Also just to brag I landed my first backflip last night!!!!! w00t!

Also, Kiteboard commuting

Haha. I would totally do that if I could.

Grats on the backflip!

I am still trying to figure/find out how best to go about self launching. Also, is there ample parking at the north end of WB?

Even though tomorrow is a Friday the nasty weather should keep enough people away.

So the wind kami smiled upon me today and with the help of a kind passerby (even though this is NEVER a good idea) I got my kite in the air and worked on some power/depowering things and given the light winds I didn't feel confident trying to body drag in the waves. I have made a vow to not go back to the beach without a kite caddy (someone to help me launch/relaunch) and plus someone to split the gas cost down there. After a while I got out my 2.5 meter kite and had a blast until I was getting tired and my hands started cramping. Twas a great day and I look like a raccoon lobster.

Oh and humandrive totally stood me up.

There have been a good couple of days lately. I've pretty much got the backroll down, landed three in a row on one run

Negative. I was helping my parents move on Friday and yesterday and was at work today. My girlfriend's mom was down there at Wrightsville and she said it was really nice.

Perhaps you should ask your brother and uncle, you know, since they do this hobby. And why in the hell are you interested in renting equipment if you are borrowing your Uncles? This whole thing just sounds made up to me. Come back and post a real thread when you are ready.

^Maybe he was interested in getting friends to go out with, or maybe he wants to go out with his brother and uncle, but they don't have two boards, two kites, etc. You're retarded.

Man today was great. I got to try the new '08 North Rhino (9m) and I have to say it had as much power as my 12m '06 Rhino. Not only that it had a lot more lift!!! I was impressed; I need to start saving my money

Got a few pictures from someone out shooting the other day. Guy Pushee was the one out taking them and he was nice enough to send a few to me.

Me

One of the other local guys. He really kills it on that surfboard.

I'm gonna pick it up over the next few months of this summer out here in California. I'm about 20 miles from one of the most popular kitesurfing spots on the west coast, Belmont Shore.

Unless I move to Phoenix, that is.

Why the hell would you move from the Pacific ocean to Phoenix?

Its cheaper.

Houses in Southern California average 600k or so.

It is crowded enough here when there are only 10 people out in one spot. I couldn't imagine what it would be like in California.

I got my ass kicked yesterday. It was blowing around 20mph but every now and then would lull down to the lower teens then gust to 35+. I only know of three other people who went out yesterday. Everyone else had the common sense to stay in and not put a kite up.

I was wondering when we'd hear from you. My poor kite feels neglected. Stupid 3-4 hour drive.
