ENGINE DETAILS!!!
To go on sale Spring 2008.
128i: 3 litre I6, 230 hp, 200 lb-ft 135i: 3 litre I6 TT, 300 hp, 300 lb-ft
Sounds great, but I think for a car that small, they also need to have a ~170 hp model. 123i?
Lots of details and 12 pics (unofficial) here:

it is so fucking ugly, i can't stomach looking at it. it's a shame since it will be way much lighter than current 335i, so more powerful and nimble.
-headlights are too big and look like baby toy car or something -body is nicely streamlined, but bumpers are flat like on E36... DOES NOT FLOW! 6/30/2007 12:10:20 PM |

Lots of high res pics here for those who like it:
http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-1-series-leaked-pics/
and also on http://www.bmwusa.com
BMW says 0-60 mph in 5.3 sec for the 135i. The 335i does it in 4.8 sec (BMW says 5.4 sec), so could one expect the 135i to clock in about 4.6-4.7 sec as it is lighter than the 335i?

all the bangle cars look much better in person than in pics, imo. They also tend to look a little wild when they first come out, but get better and better w/ time.

Yes, 335i coupe starts at 40,800 as per http://www.bmwusa.com
And now worldcarfans says the 135i will be nearly 10k less.
That's a great bargain for that performance from a German car!!!

New BMW 1-Series Concept To Debut At Tokyo
Wonder what this could be!!!
Quote : | "Conjecture and speculation is running rampant around WCF on the news that BMW will introduce a new concept derived from the 1-series at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show. According to Automotive News, BMW plans to show off the new car during their 11:30 a.m. press conference in Tokyo on October 24.
Our first thought was that BMW would show off a design for the X1 SUV crossover. That guess was ruled out by the last line of the article:
"But a BMW spokesperson denied it would be the X1 small SUV."
A convertible based on the 1-series is a distinct possibility. So too is a 1-series hot hatch." |
But didn't the convertible also just come out like a month or so ago?10/15/2007 9:09:28 PM |

I'm seeing a lot of reports that the new 1-series coupe only weighs about 200lbs less than the 3-series coupe.
Which has me wondering, WTF is the point? 10/15/2007 10:42:11 PM |
0EPII1 All American 42541 Posts user info edit post |
^^ yeah i know that thet hatch style is the original 1-series, but maybe they will debut a restyled one? or maybe a station wagon?
i mean, what IS known is that something new based on the 1-series will be shown. as for the word concept, doesn't mean much when it comes to bmw usually. they m5 is identical to the m5 concept shown a few years back. the m3 (new) is identical to the m3 concept shown last year. 10/16/2007 12:26:11 AM |

there's already a 5 door wagon in the UK. It's not bad, but I'd rather have the 3 door version.
I just don't see them doing more than a body kit (or maybe a csl version?) of the 1 series until the 2010 model year.

this idea of having a 1-series is a great idea, now that the 3-series is enormous...but the 1-series is still too big. Isn't it based on the E46 chassis? In any case, they should've made it a more substantial step down in size and weight from the 3-series. 10/16/2007 12:38:46 AM |
0EPII1 All American 42541 Posts user info edit post |
yeah i don't know what it could be. any "m1" or hipo version is years away.
as for wagon, i meant a proper station wagon, not a 5 door hatchback. it is currently sold as a 3 door and 5 door hatchback. but maybe they will come out with a station wagon. then again, a station wagon wouldn't be such a hit with enthusiasts, and since this news is receiving good coverage, and bmw is keeping up the suspense, it is probably not a station wagon. 10/16/2007 12:41:10 AM |

I'm sick of all these bullshit cars with their open diffs, that the manufacturers say act like a LSD thanks to electronics. Fuck that, keep it old school. Not to mention a lot of those systems use the brakes, resulting in more brake wear. 10/26/2007 1:12:20 PM |

My gripe with the styling, which is fully evident in the 2 pics above.
Look at that line that's majorly curving downward at the bottom edge of the door. Since it is curving downward significantly, it makes the car look fatter than it is. Just a simple optical illusion. That line should have been straight, not curving at all.
Somebody please use photoshop and make that line straight in the 2 pics above. It will markedly improve the overall character of the car, making it look lean and sportier.
BTW, what that is is the BMW 1-Series Coupe tii, unvelied at Tokyo a few days ago.

That's really hot. I don't see BMW selling such a "bare bones" vehicle in the U.S. however. I mean, "leather" has been "standard" in the U.S. since the mid 90s, even on the "base" 3 series, so... "Ahmet" :p 10/27/2007 4:18:02 PM |
