additionally, even thomas jefferson (who did not have relations with whatshername most likely it was his brother, and any professional historian worth a hill of beans would agree, thus the jefferson genes are indeed present), did not believe that slaves had the same capacity or abilities as 'whites'

it's just what they thought they knew at the time, so morally they didn't see too much wrong with it.

the best scientific minds of the day thought that, they also thought a whole host of other things that later were also proven as incorrect as their beliefs about africans.

and im not saying the sons should be "punished" for the crimes of the fathers. restitution is impractical and counterproductive at this point.

but recognition needs to be made, and apologies delivered. african slaves built this country into what it is today. especially the South, but also even New York City (for instance). slavery takes a heavy toll. their descendants have paid for it ever since.

if white folks cant admit a wrong was done, and collectively accept the responsibility (since we collectively reaped the benefits to the exclusion of the slaves' descendents) ... no one will ever move past it.

I did not own any slaves so fuck you. I am not admitting to doing anything wrong. If they are so angry about the "whites" holding there great great great great grandads in slavery then they can go back to Africa. I would say 50% or the even the majority of white americans did not even have ancestors who owned slaves or were even living in the US at the time of the civil war. Maybe if you are so upset about it you can donate your wealth to some poor black person.

What about the Native Americans??? We stole there land, raped their woman, and forced them 1000's of miles to indian "reservations." The Native American race as a whole is almost wiped out in the US today. I think they deserve the right to bitch and demand reparations more then anyone else.

Oh wait my Grandpa is Jewish. Maybe I should petition the Egyptian government for reparations for holding my ancestors as slaves 3000 years ago in Egypt. Or boo hoo to Germany for killing my 4rd cousin twice removed in the concentration camps

This will stop being an issue in the coming generations. None of us grew up with segregation, so its hard for us to feel any guilt towards something we didnt have an control over or witness. The feelings among later generations tends to be more towards using it as an excuse.
