Actually I highly doubt they could have gotten more than a 4th round pick for Moss.
If they could have gotten more for him they probably would have taken another deal instead. Think about that for a second. I really doubt they were like "well the Packers are offering a 2nd round pick but i think we'll take a 4th round pick instead". Remember Marshall Faulk in his prime was traded to St.Louis from Indianapolis for only a 3rd round pick.
They freed up a lot of cap space and got rid of a malcontent. Getting a pick in exchange was just icing, not the main reason for the deal. 4/30/2007 8:31:48 PM |

I think they could have gotten more than a fourth rounder for him if he was willing to restructure his contract for other teams but he was only willing to do it for the Pats so the Raiders took what they could get for him. 4/30/2007 8:39:39 PM |

Yeah, I mean look who some of the teams got in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. You are telling me they would rather have some of those players than Randy Moss. No fucking way.
If Randy Moss was in the draft. No way in hell he goes in the 4th round.

okay a 2nd round pick is a little more valuable than a 4th round pick.
But at the time Faulk was in his prime and was about to become the NFL MVP and win tons of awards and dominate the league for the next few seasons
Moss is on the downside of his career and is more of a malcontent than Faulk (who was a prima donna but not NEARLY the distraction that Moss has been)

Um none of that makes any sense and clearly no one said that.
They didnt trade Moss to get the draft pick. They traded him to get rid of an underperforming player with a huge contract who had soured on the organization. Big difference.
The NFL has a salary cap so it really doesn't matter if you get an asset in exchange for a player. By freeing up cap space you are acquiring an asset in and of itself.
This isn't the MLB or NBA so you don't judge the winners/losers of a trade the same way you do in the NFL.
There's a reason "fair" deals seldom occur in the NFL. The "Portis for Champ Bailey" type swaps are the exception not the rule.4/30/2007 10:10:56 PM |

I don't know if that's so much the case. Chad Jackson may well be the future at WR for the Pats. This however is a move for right now to try to get a 4th ring and get the offense back over the hump. Plus while Moss isn't the best character guy, he has a good work ethic when he wants to be where he is. He's a great talent for a young player to observe. Jackson could learn a lot of both what to do and not to do from Moss.5/1/2007 10:13:24 PM |

Reche fucking Caldwell??? at best he is a SLIGHTLY better than average WR... on a scale of 1 to 10, he is a 6. Which is a disappointment based on what he did in college.
Ike Hillard - sucks Jabar Gaffney - sucks Taylor Jacobs - sucks Travis Taylor - decent for a few years, but now sucks Jacquez Green - really really sucks Reidel Anthony - sucks Darrell Jackson is the best one I can think of 5/2/2007 1:54:52 PM |

NE was a championship contender...Moss makes them a Championship favorite. Moss gives this team a reliable and solid receiver...I don't know if he catches 15 TD's (very possible) but I think he spreads the field and opens up the field for Watson and Maroney (sp??)

from his former OC in Oakland:
Quote : | ""Randy Moss is a player whose skills are diminishing, and he's in denial of those eroding skills," former Raiders offensive coordinator Tom Walsh told the Boston Globe for Sunday's edition. "Randy was a great receiver, but he lacked the work ethic and the desire to cultivate any skills that would compensate for what he was losing physically later in his career.
"He told me last year, 'I'm too old to practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but I'm not too old to play on Sunday.' Did they start a senior league?" " |
Quote : | ""Randy Moss has great football IQ," Walsh told the paper. "He's tremendously gifted. I think he can still play, but his legs will determine how much work he can handle. We used to take him out of Friday practices because the quarterbacks wanted the receivers running near game tempo and when Randy was on the field, the whole practice slowed down so much we started giving him the day off. Once he got discouraged, he just faded."" |
I'm sure he'll buy right into that "team first" mentality in New England.5/16/2007 12:29:13 AM |

I love how every year people look for reasons why the Pats and/or their players will fail. Last year I recall the general consensus was they wouldn't make the playoffs after losing Dion Branch, and as it turns out they were a play away from making the SuperBowl. 5/16/2007 1:33:27 AM |

They were extremely lucky to even make it to the AFC championship game. The Chargers not only shot themselves in the foot, they shot themselves in just about every other body part as well in that game.
Right now the Patriots appear to be the team to beat. However, the Chargers and Colts will have something to say about that. Overall, the Chargers are more talented, but the Patriots have better coaching. Week 2 should be interesting. I'll be up in Foxborough to catch that one. 5/16/2007 11:39:53 AM |

Youre so right about that. I mean we should just all admit that Bill Bellichick is the best coach in football and that they will always be a good team no matter who plays for him.
Whats really going on is that the rest of America hates the goddamn Patriots because they won so many superbowls lately, we're tired of the media dickriding the hell outtof Tom Brady, and Bill Bellichick is a complete asshole. Phil was a Pro-bowler last year, Brady wasn't.
He had better numbers than Brady, and was much better in clutch situations. I think a push is fair if you judge them based on last year's performance. 5/16/2007 3:31:08 PM |

I mean, I know Rivers went to NCSU, but....
He has one good season, one in which he was carried by one of the greatest players of all time. I am not taking away anything from Phil, but....
I mean Brady is like 8-2 in the playoffs (I think) and 3-0 in the Superbowl, with 2 SuperBowl MVP's. Phil is 0-1. As of now, you can't even compare the 2. Maybe someday, but not now. 5/19/2007 2:04:37 AM |

I'd put Peyton Manning squarely ahead of Tom Brady now that he has led his team to a Super Bowl victory.
Brady has nothing to prove and he is a future hall of famer. I'll go ahead and retract my statement that they are a push. Rivers still has some work ahead of him to be considered on the same level, despite having a better season than Brady last year.
PS I forgot the tight end position.
