1) Shaq 2) Duncan
...
3) Kobe ... everyone else

1 - Tim Duncan - proven over and over again with different talent/players and very well about to show it again. Duncan each year is the leader of his team, is the one that shows consistency every game (regular season & playoffs). He has a good squad behind him, but Duncan is the man.
2 - Shaq - can arguably be placed at number 1 but injuries has plagued him the past couple years from being stand-out. But when healthy he is the most DOMINANT player in the league. But I bet he does not want to face the Big Fundamental. Also Shaq had Kobe...and for those that will ask what about Miami...Wade Carried the Team and Shaq assisted.
3 - Kobe - Had Shaq who made him look phenomanal (sp). Def coming to his own now, but needs a team. Until he rises to the level to carry a team and produce some Finals on his own...will not be the man.
.....LeBron - great upside and capabilities, but lets be real...way to young. .....Wade - actually ahead of LeBron, he lead his team to championship already and if was not injured-likely taken team to conference finals again. .....Mello - TBD

Also, Kobe got the team he asked for, whether or not it is the team he wants.
One question: Do those of you picking Kobe and/or Lebron consider Jordan the player of the 80s?

How many times has Garnett been past the FIRST round? I am not saying he is not a good, potentially GREAT player, but right now...nothing.
Hopefully he will get traded to a team/owner that wants to win. Not sure how likely it is, or if possible, but I would love to see him in Cleveland.

My Top Ten Right Now (post-Jordan): 1A) Tim Duncan (will be best if Spurs win it all again) 1B) Shaq O'Neal (4 rings) 3) Kobe Bryant (3 rings) 4) Dwayne Wade (a ring, most dynamic player besides Kobe) 5) Steve Nash (2 time MVP) 6) Kevin Garnett (former MVP and constant 20-10-7 almost every night) 7) Jason Kidd (walking triple double, 2 Finals appearances) 8) LeBron James (will be higher once career is done) 9) Allen Iverson (former MVP, multiple time scoring champ, a Finals appearance) 10) Dirk Nowitzki (current MVP, Finals appearance) 5/21/2007 4:43:00 PM |

I hate Kobe, and don't want to see Kobe win anything eva, but I think if KG went there it could be great for his career, however, can he and Kobe get along? I doubt it.
KG has to get out of Timberwolves country, he is dying a fast death there. Now him with LeBron - I think would be instant Eastern Conference finals for a few years. I want to see KG at least get some of what he deserves.

i love KG but him and Nowitski are soft...if you're a 7'0" you've gotta be able to play down low...draw fouls on a strong post move, dont settle on the fadeaway...his name is KG, not the Busdriver...FAYDAH! 5/21/2007 4:47:55 PM |

Can't really argue with you here, except for Kobe...dude has not done much of anything except score 50 a game...but nothing done to keep his team in the elite.

I think KG is trying to preserve some of his career...no need to get his ass whooped for someone that is not providing him a team to win with....I agree he settles on fadeaways but after some years you do have to play smarter...poor KG, I feel bad for him sometimes...then I think about how much he getting paid, and I say hey deal with it.

by most dynamic, you mean he finds a way to get a foul called on another player in many creative ways, right? He improved from #160 among guards in 05-06 to #139 in 06-07 (17% to 26%) in 3pt%, but that is still the lowest of any starter, let alone someone who plays any serious minutes.5/21/2007 7:27:18 PM |

^^ Is that a joke?
Allen Iverson was the best player in the league under 6'10 for about five straight seasons.
Larry Brown? The NBA is a player's league not a coaches. Coaches don't take teams to Finals.
Iverson took that team to the finals with Dikembe Mutombo, Aaron McKie, Eric Snow, and George Lynch as his supporting cast.
Show some fucking respect.

The Mav's with Nowitzki, Nash, and Finley (02-04) were amazing, the best the franchise had been in years. The only reason they didn't win a championship is because Dirk was taken out of the playoffs against the Spurs (who they were beating) and their depth was destroyed with two injured backup centers. They still pushed the Spurs to 6.
Then they acquired three key players just before (or as) Nash left.
Nash went to the Suns and rejuvenated a team that hadn't seen success since Barkley. He's the best all around player (who can consistently put up triple-doubles these days that isn't a complete show off playing with a terrible team) and in a season or two, he'll be wearing a ring.
Even Jordan took a couple of years to win a championship in Chicago.5/22/2007 6:21:56 PM |

I think you have to be a good defender to be considered a good all-around player.

I dont understand how someone getting traded to a better team makes them a better player.
let me rephrase ... obviously going to a better team will make ou a better player in the long run.
what i mean is .... if sean bradly was signed by the spurs tomorrow and they won the championship he woudlnt suddenly become a great player.
I think our view of "great player" revolves too much around the people they play with. although basketball more than most sports is much more apt to be taken over by one player, in a specific game

1. Kobe (Best offensive player, Best perimeter defender when he's asked to be, 90% of the time will be chosen by any coach to take the last shot, just needs someone who can hit a shot or catch the damn ball so he can pass more. I think this summers USA national competition will be great if Kobe is there)
2. Duncan (very solid player, but he probably wouldn't be in the conference finals if Bowen and Ginobli didn't hit all those three's in the fourth quarters against the Suns)
3. Shaq (last 4 years, hasn't been that much. When Miami beat Dallas in the finals, seriously Shaq was a non-factor, ESPN showed Miami + in points when he was out) 5/26/2007 4:13:05 PM |
