The media in this country is doing a good job of blinding America with their hype machines and their not focusing properly on issues. Asking someone to not make inappropriate personal comments is not censorship, she can still say what she wants. However, she cannot expect people to not respond to her words and let her know that know that they are unacceptable in our society. Its the same that her publisher can decide not to print something inflammatory and it does not violate her right to say it.

As for libel: Her comments border several areas, particularly when she if she was calling John Edwards gay when she called him a faggot. Potentially, it could fall into an area of libel about a person's sexuality/promiscuity. Comments about him being a blood sucking attorney potentially could fall into liable against his business.

Its certainly not clear cut and would be a stretch in an actual court of law, but libel is not protected under the first amendment and if I had to write a memo for school saying these words were libel or political speech, it would be a lot easier to argue that these comments are libel than political, when they clearly are in a gray area.
