I've got to say, the new C63 AMG is disappointing to me. It looks positively neutered compared to the previous generation, doesn't sound nearly as good (and never will), and apparently isn't any faster than its predecessor. And now it has a column mounted shifter?

Ironically, I'd say the opposite of the regular C class models. I think they look amazing inside and out. But the C63...no.


And for the love of FUCKING GOD, when will this horrible fad of bumper integrated exhaust finishers go away?!? Please please please, die a horrible fucking death....be gone with you.

this thread has been such a farce. the car has always and will always be total garbage and an even more hand wavy attempt at a 'sports' GT car than the m3 (which is also junk). these things are for investment bankers that can't drive and want to look cool

I've seen firsthand how much fun these cars are at the track. So what if it's not a finely tuned scalpel? It's a mondern day muscle car with a monster engine that's one of the best instruments available for hooning.

seen firsthand someone else having fun? I've 'seen' people enjoy their kia rios, but that doesn't make them good cars.

clearly i'm too competitive to enjoy this shitheap (or my own for that matter). i'm interested in a car doing what i tell it and getting great feedback to learn and cut my lap times. this thing is great for roasting tires and having to coast half your laps to manage heat. though it may sound halfway decent while you do it.

I think you're expecting your ///M (or probably even more so, an AMG) to be something it's not.

You want something that shreds racetracks like a DSR...but it's a BMW, not a Stohr, haha. An M3 is a killer street car that you could drive across the country, that is also happy doing track duty.

A race-replica motorcycle is reasonably priced, dependable, has a decent warranty, will shred the bejeezus out of a racetrack straight off the showroom floor, can pretty happily commute around town day-in, day-out...and maybe you're used to thinking about vehicles in those terms, since that's the bulk of your track experience.

There is no automotive equivalent, though. Anything that track-focused is either a bastard in the daily grind, stupendously exotic and expensive, or temperamental and a pain in the ass to own, or very dated, or some combination of the above.

You're either going to have to buy a Seven, or an Atom, or go all-in and get something like a Radical or even a Stohr, or you're going to have to spend gigantic money on a 911 GT3 or something like that.

I'd be fine if they called it a GT car, but claiming it to be a sports car or anything of the sort is a complete lie.

You are somewhat correct, in that what I want out of a sports car seems hard to find, but I don't need the FASTEST thing on track, just something that can handle being out there. Even a stock cayman will handle lap after lap with pads and fluid. I'd like bmw, amg (lol), or corvette to do similar. The most important thing on track is consistency and having a vehicle change considerably while you're still trying to establish said consistency is antithetical. I'd be fine if these cars had an ecu 'enduro' profile that was the same as 'race' just with the timing dialed back so the car could manage the heat.

At any rate, the thread premise is a lie, as it still lags behind the m3 in mostly everything.

A GT2/3/4RS is probably what I'll end up with if i dont completely give up on finding a worthy car that's still street legal

dude, corvettes have their shortcomings, but the Z51/Z06/ZR1 models whip ass on track.

I haven't driven a C7, but maybe you should go check out a C7 Z51. Apparently they are absolutely shit hot from bumper to bumper.

the z07 was what I'd had in mind, but the ecu seems to hose it completely. the ecu reporting overheating after 45mile highway runs

BMW’s M line up is a blasphemy, in fact, the whole marque is becoming quickly worthless. The M3 is great for hooning and daily driving, and to be fair a very nice exhaust tone- but they are not track worthy. That’s OK, most cars aren’t. Some are, I love mine!

Well the GT350 starts just under $50k. The GT350R is the one close in cost to the M3. Though good luck getting an M3 for under $70k without special ordering it
