We have a dachsund too and she is really good with staying at home during the day though since we live in a rural area she gets to run a lot. My brother and sister-in-law live in a really small apartment and have a miniature chihuahua that works really well for them.

Look, if you want to be mean to a dog just go out and kick one once a week or something. Don't put one through a life of misery staying cooped up all day every day.

Back home we have tons of dogs. The huntin dogs are chained up in the pens and fed once a day. The yard dogs get chained to a 20ft chain in the back yard.

Don't get a dog... it's more money then you think and more work then you think.

i have a chihuahua daschund mix and she just spends the day running around the house doing Lord knows what while i'm at work. she's always happy and is not overweight, nor does she potty in the house. she's such a good doggie

i don't know if anyone has said this yet, but i think it would be ideal for you to get a dog from the pound or craigslist or something that's already grown so you don't have to potty train it. that would be mean to leave a baby puppy at home alone all day.

ps-> plus i have a fenced in backyard, so she runs around out there while i'm at home.
