I'm not ashamed of admitting I'm a kvlt metal elitist. When I say metal, I'm referring to Death and Black and the myriad of subgenres therein...the extreme and tech stuff, basically.

I used to absolutely HATE hardcore and the grind bands that came close, but I guess after playing around Raleigh a lot I've gotten to know most of the major acts and they're all swell guys...I can tolerate it now, and even appreciate the talent some of the musicians have. It's mostly the girly vocalists and breakdowns that irk me.

The death metal scene in Raleigh is lacking.. basically Dreamscapes of the Perverse, Bloodsoaked, my band (Morose Vitality for those of you who haven't seen me spamming Entertainment with our show announcements), and one or two I'm not thinking of is all we've got. I am proud to say we are and will always be pure, no-frills death metal.

On that note, self plug: we have a show at Volume 11 Tavern on Monday night (8/13) and one at the Cat's Cradle next Sunday (8/19)

kbbrown3 my boy is lead singer in a metal band. He plays in a band called she is a liar. I don't know much about metal really and just went to my first show a week or so ago but i was suprised that I actually had a good time. Anyways since I don't know shit about metal take a listen to them and tell me if you think they are good or not.

...among others...but i'm a huge fan of those groups whose words i can actually UNDERSTAND, not that crappy screaming and yelling and general guttural mumblings...they just suck

Granted, some of those are great bands, I recognize that. Maybe I should have singled a few of them out as not having balls...I agree, IE, Nevermore, Angel Dust and the like are men among men. But stuff like Dragonforce, Nightwish, et al. is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I'm not saying power metal is for pussies and everyone should like growling vocals and blast beats. I realize death and black metal aren't going to click with most people, and that there's a lot of amazing talent in heavy and power metal. But METAL as a genre is about heavy, aggressive, and progressive style above all, and in my humblest of opinions, much of the latter doesn't deliver.

Again, I'll never call anyone a dork for having different musical tastes. Unless you like emo. Or nu-metal.
