How is that a backpedal? I JUST said "But we are talking about the guys that do. And yes they image/wipe their machines as needed. "
What the hell are you talking about? I think you are confusing my remarks, because I most agree with you here. 8/12/2007 11:57:46 PM |

I like how we went from this:
Quote : | "I would never buy an IBM, or now a Lenovo laptop." |
to this:
Quote : | "I love Lenovo/IBM laptops. Always have loved them. I've sold or made purchasing decisions for hundreds of machines." |

Moving along...
Quote : | "For enterprise, Lenovo offers a TON of awesome services, support and tools. Those dont have anything to do with the trivial utilities we are talking about here, except for the Client Security and possibly the fingerprint software." |
We all know about the reputation of Lenovo's service and support (#1 in the PC business). But about those tools... those would be... ??? ... *silence* ... *crickets chirping*...
Exactly like I said, you have no clue what you are talking about. The TVT's are all that Lenovo offers in terms of tools. There are a few tools like ThinkVantage ImageUltra and Antidote, but those are used only by large enterprise.
Quote : | "My entire gripe with this thread is your absurd assertion that these addon utilities are a) critical for stability, b) have no effect on battery life or system performance and c) offer the best options to the consumer." |
Hey, you started it. I was just explaining how the software worked to the original poster. Then you jumped on and decided you wanted to share your feelings. And I still stand behind those claims:
a) Yes, they are critical to the "smooth operation" of the system. I've already explained this reasoning in my first post in this thread. b) Yes, the tools have little to no effect on battery life or performance. I have yet to see your "facts and figures that are verifiable" . All my proof is listed under any ThinkPad review at websites like CNET, PC Magazine, Laptop Magazine, Laptop Logic, Notebookreviews, etc... Pull up any performance data between different PC Vendors and show me. I'd like to see how Lenovo's systems consistently perform slower because of these tools. c) Yes, for enterprise/small business, I believe it is a great option. And apparently Lenovo does too. Hench why they continue to include these tools. Not once did anyone mention it as the "best" option.
I think you've pretty much explained yourself.8/13/2007 10:13:12 AM |

^^Probably because I'm not a business user dumbass. I didnt go from anything to anything.
One is in the context of a HOME USER (aka what the OP bought this for) and the other is in the context of Enterprise business users, what you two have been arguing about like idiots.

I was referring to the enterprise services and software options IBM provides for enterprise, not to anything ON the laptops themselves. Wrong context.

That's an outright LIE though. Your system will not crash because you havent installed one of these utilities. Neither will it run "better" with them. You might have more options, arguably more functionality, but that doesn't make the system "smooth". Adding satellite radio and GPS to a car doesn't make the engine run any better.

Bullshit, because none of the lame-ass mass media sites do that kind of testing. I couldn't find a single damn review where they did a full system wipe and benchmarked an OEM configured ThinkPad against a vanilla windows install. I've personally done this on several generations and models of powerbooks and found (as I previously mentioned) a marked gain in performance and battery life.
As I said, if someone will let me borrow a new Lenovo unit for a week to bench it, I will gladly do so, because I'd like nothing more to be proven wrong that the current generation no longer has the problem.
I think the fundamental problem here is I have been addressing the needs of a HOME USER, while you and Solinari have been prancing about talking about enterprise business users. They are two entirely different beasts with entirely different needs.8/13/2007 3:40:52 PM |
