Fuh, according to the cashier I spoke with, and my neighbors that do this, you are paid back at certain stores. Guess your friend goes to the wrong one.
others: If you picked up the paper today, did you see the proctor and gamble insert? I picked up one in Chapel Hill, and there is nothing. I got it out of a paper dispenser, and people had thrown a bunch of previous coupon ads (that I did not have) on the floor, so it was a win win anyway 8/29/2007 9:47:55 AM |

I miss that Lake Wheeler Food Lion. They used to always have some cheap meat that was expiring that day. We used to buy that stuff every time we went in and ate great. (never died from it) We would get ribs, chicken, steaks. It was great. Usually it was only like $1.50 by the time it was discounted twice.
For some reason, the Food lion where I live now hardly ever does this. 8/29/2007 12:29:52 PM |

^ The one on Maynard in Cary does it. I don't know how frequently you're talking, but most of the times I've been in there it has had something discounted.
Last Friday I went to Sam's club, and it had ground turkey will a sell-by date of the next day for $0.90 per pound. I bought 25 pounds 8/29/2007 12:36:04 PM |

Most grocery stores have discount meat and dairy sections. The Lowe's near my house that I shop at all the time has one, and it's pretty much the only place I'll get my meat (except from the butcher area, because the Tanglewood Farms stuff they have is great and very moderately priced). Considering I usually shop for meats that I will consume that day, it's the best way to go. 8/29/2007 3:15:09 PM |

To really use coupons takes a lot of work and time, but it can be worth it. I have seen my mother leave Harris Teeter or Kroger without paying anything and having easily over $150 worth of stuff. Usually the store will not pay you to take things out of the store, but if the cashier is new/stupid/disgruntled...it could happen. 8/30/2007 2:06:29 AM |

For the first 2+ weeks of trying this (last week there were no new coupons, so my stash was limited), I have saved over $70 in coupons alone, and with the store specials that I add with the coupons, I have saved $201 and spent around $130 total (so close to 65% savings). I went to Lowes yesterday, spent $26, saved $30 with about 14 coupons, with total savings of $55 [this was my best % savings so far].
BTW. Harris Teeter has NY Bone-in Strip for $5 a pound (half off). I pretty much bought the shelf and have packed a lot of nice steak in the freezer. They were thicker cuts than I normally see at HT.

Sept 21, 22, and 23 Harris Teeter is having triple coupon days (although it says up to $.99 face value and limit 20/customer). Also there's a 15% case discount on wine those days.
What does the 99c limit mean? 9/19/2007 12:31:22 PM |
sd2nc All American 9963 Posts user info edit post |
they won't triple coupons over 99 cents, they're just face value 9/19/2007 12:34:18 PM |
Skwinkle burritotomyface 19447 Posts user info edit post |
They'll triple a coupon worth 99 cents, but one for $1 is just worth $1.
Isn't there always a 15 percent case discount? Or is it 10? 9/19/2007 12:34:53 PM |

this triple coupon sucks in my opinion. Not much good stuff. I did get a lot of campbells soups. thats really it.
Of the stuff I did buy, I spent $13 total, and saved $60.

You can usually find deals where the coupon doesn't expire for a long time and then double up. Meaning say you purchase Charmin TP and have a coupon that takes off so much if you buy two packs. But you also have another coupon from say two weeks ago that hasn't expired yet and have to buy 3 packs of the same Charmin to use that coupon.
So you double up by only buying 3 Charmin's but use 2 coupons and if it's double or triple bonus you make out like a bandit. However the problem is finding time to cut them and organizing them before shopping. Otherwise shopping sucks ballz as you are digging through a pile of coupons trying to find a coupon and it ends up it's expired and now your 30 min shopping trip is now over an hour or more. 9/20/2007 11:22:21 AM |

This is lame, but some of you may appreciate this.....
When I go shopping, I think of my grocery savings as income from a job. So if I have to spend 2 hours clipping and organizing coupons and 1 extra hour finding all the stuff, I better save at least $50.00 for the 3 hours I spent. It's not worth it for me to spend 2-3 hours and save only $10.00. 9/20/2007 12:54:51 PM |

Have you tried to do this at the online ordering and pick up Harris Teeters? You can do your shopping at work and get your coupons organized and then go stop by on your way home and pick them up for $4.95 and you don't even have to go into the store. Save time and money and cut down on impulse buys! 9/20/2007 1:56:06 PM |

I added up my grocery bill for this past month. I spent $170 in groceries. This is much more than I normally buy, but I also know I have now stockpiled a lot of food that I wont have to buy later. My savings are over $250.00 (60%). One more month of this and I should have enough so that I can minimize the actual shopping to 'need' items. I have, for the first time, actually been cooking for myself, and not going out for lunch at work (saving big $$$) (I had Campbell's Signature soup today [33 cents] a granola bar [5 cents maybe] a yogurt [30 cents] and a mountain dew [20 cents] totaling 88 cents. I average no less than 6 dollars a day for lunch when I eat out, often more, netting $25 a week in savings on lunch alone.
right now I have no impulse buys. I am strictly sticking to items on sale that are a great deal and items I have coupons on.

I also think of my time in the same way. To start off with, clipping coupons is about a 20 minute job per sunday, and I usually do it while watching sports, along with paying bills, opening mail, and other home paperwork.9/22/2007 7:16:27 AM |

Exactly. It also is a way to delay doing the real shit that needs to be done around the house. Taking two minutes to cut out a single coupon while cussing at the TV is a much better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than mopping, painting, mowing, etc.9/22/2007 11:44:40 PM |

HT will accept competitor's coupons. They are big on customer service.
Also, HT will not pay people if their order goes into the negative $s. If that happens, you usually have to buy enough items to bring the order back above $0.

I think they only do it twice a year.
Though I thought it was triple coupon day once like a year ago and I called the one near where I was living (in Cary) and the person I talked to said they believed one of the HTs (the one in Fuquay Varina) had it all the time. I don't think it's true, though, but I haven't felt the need to call and ask them since I don't really want to drive out there. 9/24/2007 2:00:55 PM |

I dont know if Lowes has triple coupons. I think they do. They have matched Harris teeter's coupon policy. But as someone said, triples are rare, and they are normally advertised only a few days before the event. 9/24/2007 2:43:50 PM |

yeah, Lowe's does it every few months or so, and they advertise it in their circular.
Also, they send out $10 off $35 coupons every few months as well. The most recent mailing had 4 of them, each valid on a different week. 9/24/2007 2:51:36 PM |

Hell, every time I peruse the coupons it's either something I JUST bought, or something I'd never buy to begin with.
My mom, however, who has no life to speak of it seems, mails me a little organizer stuffed with coupons every month. She clips and organizes them for me.
