Good for you. The point was not to turn this into a personal preference argument. It's about what devices have the current market momentum.

"Nintendo is owning the XBox"

Bullshit. The total console sales are less than 1% apart, and if the japanese weren't a bunch of xenophobes then 360 would be blowing away the competition (they have a 60% lead on Wii in the US and a 17% lead everywhere else). Also, 360 has more games and accessories sold than wii and ps3 combine in just the time since both launched. You are simply wrong on this.

Have you even seen a Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6 device?

Yes, it is very successful. Anyone telling you otherwise is spouting pure bullshit.

Quote :
"Or did you hear that Apple's laptop market share is more than 15% now...consider now that they make money on hardware as well as software."

First off, those increases are significantly helped by Apple finally allowing dual boot to Windows possible. Secondly, Ross Perot received 19% of the popular vote in the presidential election... they should be proud. Third, consider that Microsoft makes money on the OS, Office, and the servers.

Early market entry, no viable alternative until now.

Nintendo is owning the XBox
iPod is owning the Zune"

Wait, so you discredit Microsoft's success with Windows Mobile by saying it was early market dominance when there was little alternative, but then do a complete 180 when it comes to talking about mp3 players? Shouldn't you discredit Apple's iPod success over the Zune and others by the same basis?
The Zune is holding its own. They have met their goal of 1 million sold in the first fiscal year and has 10% of the hard-disk mp3 player market (the majority of iPod sales are going to be the smaller flash drives so it makes sense the Zune is doing well in its "relative market").

Have you ever actually used one? I own one and it is stellar. In fact, my wife keeps saying she's buying a Zune next because her Nano drives her fucking crazy (the wheel is unresponsive and it never wants to do whatt she wants it to).

I love fanboys

Why are you comparing the total sales? Didn't someone tell you that the 360 was released more than a year before the Wii was? Even then, I guess all the analysts are BSing when they say that the Wii US sales are going to overtake 360 sales in a week or so.

I don't care why Nintendo is winning...I don't care if the Japanese are faggots. You have fun with that. I just know that the Wii is kicking major ass and that the 360 is selling almost as well as the PS3, which is pathetic. I have both, so I have no reason to be a retarded fanboi.

Yes, I have used Windows mobile. Feel free to enlighten me by posting screenshots of it along with those of the iPhone. Heck, feel free to compare Vista's interface with that of OSX Tiger (I am not even talking about Leopard atm).

If Vista is so successful, why is every company boycotting it? Why did Dell start selling XP again? Why did Microsoft extend the lifecycle of XP? Why can't Microsoft get 64 bit right? Heck, even Tiger is 64 bit, and Leopard aims to be 100% 64 bit.

Again, have fun analyzing why Apple laptop sales are increasing. Every macbook sold has OSX pre-installed on it. If Microsoft didn't care about virtualization on macs, then why did it restrict the Vista license? Why did it promise to reconsider it, but then ate its own words? Apple is worth more than HP now, and that's telling.

So your wife can't get the Nano to work? I mean I must be really lucky if my wheel works like it should and if I could get it to do what I want to...which is play music. In any case, null and void argument because it is unsupported by facts and case studies.

You people talk about games and accessories. What accessories? 10 controllers? Games I can agree...but Nintendo makes more money on games than anyone else. Besides, what's that got to do with CONSOLE SALES? Wait, isn't Microsoft still losing money despite nickel and diming the gamers with the marketplace and selling groundbreaking accessories and games?

fuck you and your biased numbers.

If you're talking about profits and accessories and all that crap, you obviously don't care about regionalization.

360 is selling in more countries than the PS3 or the Wii. I can goto Indian and buy a 360 today, while even the Gamecube isn't available there. So fuck you. I'll count the total console sales. Not Nintendo's fault that Microsoft couldn't get blue dragon right.

I said sales RATES, not total sales to date. That's because I'm not going to be a moron and ignore the fact that the 360 had over a year headstart.

Not exactly. If the Zune was gaining significant ground on the iPod or had the momentum of the iPhone in its respective market, you'd have yourself a valid point. Nearly every head-to-head comparison of the devices has picked the OLD iPod as the winner. This is to say nothing of the fact that Apple is going to unveil an updated line in a few days. Face it, the Zune is flaccid.

That is some ironic shit right there.

"I don't care if the Japanese are faggots."

Its an important note. The difference in sales in Japan have far more to do with xenophobia than with merit of the consoles. They will never choose a US product over a Japanese product.

Quote :
"Yes, I have used Windows mobile. Feel free to enlighten me by posting screenshots of it along with those of the iPhone. Heck, feel free to compare Vista's interface with that of OSX Tiger (I am not even talking about Leopard atm)."

First off, what good are screenshots? The visual appeal is completely subjective and you can emulate either interface method so it is pointless anyways. Just go look at a the Desktop screencap thread and you'll see that different types of users prefer vastly different styles and interface methods. You can't say yours is superior because you like the way it looks and still keep a straight face.

Companies aren't boycotting Vista. Corporate environments are always slow to adopt new OSes because its not an easy transition (for example, we are still using Windows 2000 at my work and just got XP test boxes this month... we have incompetent and scared managers). XP's lifecycle has been extended because its a killer OS that people love. People rarely want to initiate change if the status quo is working. This is the same struggle that Microsoft faced going from 98SE to XP. Still, Vista is exceeding sales expectations and has addressed the previous chief windows complaint of security. I run Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and have absolutely zero problems. No driver problems, no graphics problems, no security problems, no speed problems... its is the best OS I've ever seeb, far and away.

It keeps thinking that she is tapping the wheel when she is holding it down.. can't remember what specific functionalities are dealt with there but it drives here crazy... especially when trying to run. If you think people don't have problems with the iPod jogwheel then you are fooling yourself. The guy in the cuve next to me complains about it all the time. Says he likes the concept but there just needs to be a few buttons for smoother operation, especially from the pocket. My Zune plays great music and and the interface is great, I don't know why that is hard for you to believe.

Microsoft has greater accessory and game sales numbers and higher revenue numbers. Pretty much kills your point there. These numbers are important to console success because it shows active use, it shows people continue to enjoy the product enough to keep reinvesting in its products. I know you didn't just call out Microsoft for nickel and diming gamers... Nintendo is the King of extorting maximum money from its user base (GameBoy is a prime example and its not like VC is any cheaper than Live Arcade)

The point is people aren't buying as many for the Wii as they are for the 360.

Not so, most are going to be official MS products (controllers, headsets, wireless, vision camera, etc.). I think its pretty safe to say that all the consoles sell the same proportion of third party accessories.

You don't seem to understand a simple concept... if 6.75 million people already own a 360, they aren't going to be buying another one. Being out for a year earlier hurts the most recent monthly sales in that more people already have the console and therefore don't need to buy one. The 360 has sold 60% more than the Wii in this country and there is a finite market for this product... you can't expect the sales to never slow down as market saturation sets in.

FYI, here are the numbers for early August...

Platform	18-Aug	11-Aug
Wii 89,280 86,469 +4%
Xbox 360 59,118 52,484 +13%
PS3 47,928 41,499 +15%

The release of Madden alone was enough to bump the 360 (and the PS3). Expect another spike with Halo 3.

"Nintendo Wii - the month's best-selling video game system in the United States

Wii emerged as the month’s best-selling video game system of any type in the United States and achieved its highest weekly sales rates since December, despite pricing shifts in the industry, according to the independent NPD Group and internal Nintendo figures. Wii and Nintendo DS remained the two best-selling video game systems in the United States, with Nintendo hardware outselling all other systems – combined.

But behind every great game platform are a lot of great games—and that’s certainly evident from Nintendo’s momentum:

* Nintendo remained the top U.S. game publisher for the sixth consecutive month.
* So far this year, Nintendo titles claim six of the industry’s top 10 best sellers, including the top three: Pokemon Diamond (overall No. 1) and Pokemon Pearl (No. 3) for Nintendo DS, and Wii Play (No. 2) for Wii.
* Nintendo DS, with more than 300 titles available, has the largest game library for any current generation system.
* Wii has added new titles (averaging nine per month since launch) at a faster rate than any other new home system.
* Including an ever-increasing library of classic titles available for download on the Wii Shop Channel, American owners of Nintendo DS and Wii will have a combined selection of nearly 800 games to choose from by year end.
* Nintendo expects momentum for both systems to continue, given the Aug. 20 launch of Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS and the upcoming Aug. 27 launch of the hugely anticipated Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for Wii.

Wow, are you dizzy from all that spin? Look, it's either a Wiimote, or a $10 game, neither is very helpful to your point. Do you really want to go up against the 360 for sales of $10 games?

3rd party developers aren't going to make games for the Wii if it isn't selling software, no matter how many hardware units are out there.

When was Twilight Princess released?

Didn't Bill Gates come out and advertise GoW as THE game that will catapult the 360 sales?

Yeah 400,000 is such a big number. I am sure Zelda will not sell more than GoW.

You're obviously very good at using google.com, so surely you can discover on your own that Gears of War was released a whole 2 weeks before Twilight Princess.

Hell, I'm not the one posting games bundled with consoles and accessories as evidence of strong software sales. I tried to help you out by posting a monthly sales figure, in a month where the Wii dramatically outsold all consoles (even the DS), but you go ahead and post LTD sales where the Wii is getting summarily crushed in software sales. But thanks for playing.

LOL

Did you see the total sales? Only GoW is the 360 exclusive game that has sold as well as the Wii titles (not even counting the bundled games). Game sales over a week mean nothing. Look at the total sales. Then tell me the Wii is getting "crushed".

When you talk about console sales, it makes sense to consider momentary sales simply because of the huge delta between release times. Even if you consider total sales and divide it by number of months out, the Wii pwns any other consoles. I mean God, it just takes a brief review of various news sites and analyst reports to come to that conclusion.

really WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK. why are you guys even arguing this lame as shit? the 360 offers the best experience overall, everyone knows that, and if you think otherwise you are only fooling yourself. who cares about pokemon or mario or smash brothers? i would not even think about playing such games, and any grown man that does it lame.

gargs just why do you feel the need to prove something to the internet. no one really cares.

I have never played it, but if it's fun why not?

It must be a good game if millions all over the world are playing it. I, personally, am tired of the same rehash of FPS games.

yeah, use the old rehashing argument. i would guess in real life that every sunday a football is a rehash of last week's games, right? but people love that shit, just as real shooter fans love new grounds to shoot on. i don't see why this concept is so hard to understand. anyway, if you stepped back, took a deep breath, and read this thread from a third person perspective, you would really see how lame you are and sound arguing this bullshit, and shut the fuck up. seriously, man give it a break. no body really cares.

"real shooter fans"

not all gamers fall into that category, as can clearly be evinced from software/hardware sales.

That said, Metroid Prime 3 just got a 9.5 from IGN.

I'm not exactly sure what total game sales since the original NES has to do with the Wii, but if it makes you feel like you've "won", good for you. It doesn't change the fact the Wii doesn't move software half as well as the 360. By your own list, it has half as many million+ selling games than the 360, and that's with almost negligible sales in the second largest gaming market in the world (Japan).

I'm wondering what you're going to say when Bioshock/Madden for the 360 top the sales charts for August/September. Or when Halo 3 rips everything apart in October (over 1 million pre-ordered already). Hell, look at that retarded list YOU posted. The most recent CONSOLE game from Nintendo on that list was on the Nintendo 64.

real shooter fans are going to get a 360 or a ps3, console-wise.
