^I found out that Flair didn't quit after all. He was on Primetime with the Packman on Friday, and he said he didn't quit. He was starting a business called "Ric Flair Finance(s)." I think he just needed some time off to get that off the ground, but it doesn't help that he was receiving 'roids.

yep, i think with all this other stuff going on, it's one of those situations where everyone is expecting something else bad to happen... so Flair's absence would turn into Flair quitting (especially since he's been in such bad storylines lately) 9/10/2007 11:35:08 AM |

^I say Flair should get one more shot at the World Heavyweight Title considering he's the icon as far as wearing that belt. Have him miraculously win the Rumble, and he'll probably wrestle someone like Edge or Batista for the strap at WM25. Flair wins, retires at WM, then KOTR tourney to crown a new champ.
That's how I would do it, but I'm not a writer/booker for the WWE.

i wouldn't let him win the title and then let him abandon it... i don't care what he's done or what people think he's done for the profession, if he's going to go out then he needs to go out putting over one more guy...
i guess it's a personal thing, but i staunchly believe that nobody should go out on a win... hell, i wouldn't object to seeing the undertaker lose at wrestlemania in his last match there... although when he retires Survivor Series would be a more appropriate retirement ppv 9/10/2007 11:49:58 AM |

its clear that with RARE exception, the WWE writers dont think more than 30 days in advance. The only case of good booking foresight was with Kennedy in the god-awful mcmahon baby angle. They actually had shit "planned" up to WM (according to the net). Then that all got shitted on with Kennedy getting suspended.
The writers also dont have any memory apparently, particularly when it comes to continuity. I remember one thing with Kane getting his mask removed. 2 weeks prior to the full reveal, the mask was yanked off by someone else, with no hair coming with it and kane using his locks to cover his face. Then, 2 weeks later, the mask came off with hair a part of the mask and Kane is completely bald. WTF!? 9/10/2007 1:42:16 PM |

^^my issue with that is that Ric Flair has spent his entire career putting people over. I don't think he should have to; not in his last match... and not when he's an old man... him putting someone over does have the same meaning (wow, you beat up an old man) than it would with him getting the title, retiring, and causing a tournament for the belt. 9/10/2007 1:53:27 PM |

sure he's spent his entire career putting people over, only to beat them again later down the line...
granted, i stopped watching around '01 or so, but i can't think of anyone who has beaten him cleanly without getting it back in return...
ultimately, with ALL of Flair's opponents, Flair ended with the upper hand and the top spot whenever he wanted it...
i'm not saying he isn't deserving of a good sendoff, but devaluing the WWE championship (even more than splitting it in two) just so he can strut around the ring and "WOOOO" one last time would strike me as a terrible idea 9/10/2007 3:25:35 PM |

They should set up a storyline where Flair earns a title shot for the next week's Raw and the next week's Raw is in Charlotte. Flair wins the belt in Charlotte and retires a happy man. 9/10/2007 4:33:35 PM |

i was honestly expecting Jericho to show up during the last man standing match (the whole save_us.222 thing) and help orton win because cena caused him to be "fired"...now who knows what they'll do 10/2/2007 6:03:02 PM |

I KNEW that he really looked like he was hurt when he was trying to apply the STFU to Kennedy. Cena could barely reach his head. Then he was holding it funny the whole time Orton beat the shit outta him.
Wonder what angle they'll take to get rid of his belt. Maybe have him attack McMahon on Smackdown and have it stripped?10/2/2007 10:32:34 PM |

timswar All American 41050 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, no need to have an angle for this, fans understand injuries...
things have to be shifted around and whatnot, but having injury angles happen like this are just gifts... they can refresh the top of the roster, and when Cena comes back there's an insta-feud with the person "responsible" 10/3/2007 7:27:49 AM |

As big of a Kennedy...Kennedy mark as I am, I think he's really not ready for a title run. I mean, he's like top five as far as working the mic, but his in-ring skill leaves something to be desired. Don't get me wrong, I want Kennedy to eventually be champ. I just don't think he's "ready" right now. Did you see that match with Cena on Monday? Horrible even with Cena getting hurt.10/3/2007 8:38:23 AM |

I'm honestly expecting the ultimate opportunist, Edge, to return from injury and rob Orton of the belt (face turn for Edge maybe?) and set up a feud between them until HBK and Jericho show up. HBK will want revenge on Orton, and while I think Jericho was intended to feud with Cena, sending him after Edge will work just as well. 10/3/2007 3:40:31 PM |

I don't disagree that he's not really ready, but I think that could work as a neat angle with Kennedy's mic skills...sort of like MVP, having everyone gun for him as an "undeserving champion" and letting him heel it up.10/3/2007 5:50:04 PM |
