its too bad that you can't set the options to not download updates
so given that the new 8300HDC box has the crappy navigator software, is it worth the upgrade to get the better external eSATA functionality (can rewind live tv when recording to the external drive)? sounds like there are a lot of features that came on the passport version, which are missing/broken on the 8300HDC. Is that true?2/12/2008 9:38:34 AM |

No way would I voluntarily upgrade. Navigator is unstable. Sometimes it freezes up. Other times it does not record what it is supposed to. The menus are painfully slow. There are more problems then benefits. If my passport box did not die, then I would not have switched. In the near future all Passport boxes will be getting Navigator, but no one is sure when that will be. 2/12/2008 10:40:42 AM |

so who all is using an e-sata drive with the new navigator software?
1) can you rewind live tv?
2) is there ANY differences between recording to the internal hard drive or to the external?
3) any issues what so ever? 5/12/2008 11:15:17 AM |

1) Yes 2) None that I know 3) I stopped using an external HDD with the software release that had a sleep mode that kicked in after 3hrs of activity. If you had an external HDD attached it could not wake up and you would have to reboot. I don't know if there has been an update since. 5/14/2008 11:45:59 AM |

How do I reset the video out on the 8300HD?
Originally I was using composite, then switched to hdmi with another tv. Now I want to go back to composite. 5/16/2008 3:06:04 PM |
