That's why I suggested making a NSFW section. Anything NSFW posted outside of it would be grounds for suspension.

It is a great idea. Plus I could moderate it.

EDIT: To reiterate, when I say NSFW I include: racism, obscene language in the thread title, porn, violenece, and general horrible things for humanity.

i don't think he's saying that tww in general is moderated heavily but certain sections are. i must say that one of the things that lured me to tww in the first place was the stuff that's posted here, the drama that ensues, and that fact that pretty much anything goes. i've spent time on many message boards and i've never had as much fun on any of them like i used to on tww. my friends irl that used to post here say that it's not fun anymore because of the heavy-handed moderation in certain sections i.e. the fun ones. i have to agree with duke on this one. shit's gone down hill and certain mods are the ones to blame. and regarding the wral shit; who cares? like i said earlier, it's shit like that made me want to look at it. look at how much publicity it brought tww. think about how many people looked up tww just to see it for themselves. think about those same people seeing all the ads and possibly bringing revenue to the advertisers. no doubt the new owners bought this site to make money. i think they would want people to check tww out. tww isn't a message board for public librarians! it's a site for college students. maybe college students should be able to act like college students at least on a message board on the internet. it's bad enough you have to watch your back so much in real life in fear of "offending" some asshole. tww should be a place to vent and get some shit stirred up.

yeah, less moderation was more entertaining a lot of the time, but i dont think increasing moderation has led to decreased membership. (post hoc...)

i do think a lot of people seriously became disgusted and left with the WRAL "niggergate" incident. I'd say TWW lost as many members due to that, as it has lost those who were upset because picture bombing and racial flame wars were being squelched.

the problem of attracting and retaining new members is deeper than moderation. it would mean (1) new advertising campaigns combined with (2) older members giving up some control of the direction of the site.

i dont know who is motivated enough to go on advertising campaigns like they did in the past (people have lives now)... and the current oldtimers are so entrenched in the culture that they essentially created, I can't see any of you wanting to give up control of the site to noobs. I mean look at what happened with that ncemt_03 fool.

the site was essentially created by nc state students who were in attendance from 2000-2004. since then, people who joined have to assimilate into the culture that is already present. they dont get to create a new culture. some new users fit right in. Many, i think, don't fit in and just go back to their MySpace/Facebook/YouTube/whatever community forums.

^just gonna post here for a while and hopefully i'll get tired and want to go to bed. damn snow got me all hyper and its 215 already damnit..ive already been a moderator. actually in that section. and it sucked balls because there was no discussion in the mod forum like there supposedly is now. there was no accountability. if i suspended someone, they could just go get another friend to unsuspend them. etc etc. half the mods hated the anti-racism thing i tried to do.

i had actually talked to nael about maybe trying it again, and he said that he was not going to change the power structure of tww, and that he would look into "giving" me "more power" in the future. at that point i pretty much decided that i don't want any part of the moderation of this site. its a pain in the ass to log in to 20 PMs every day and always having someone mad at you. which is why lots of the mods here do act like little kids and we get lots of kneejerk suspensions just to prove some sort of gay alpha male mod internet bullshit. and thats really the main reason i retracted my "offer/request" to go back to being a mod. if it was anything other than being a babysitter and a janitor, it would be worth the hassle. but these guys honestly are lucky if they still have people who love the power so much that they'd be willing to moderate for free.

i will say that as an overall supreme moderator, nael does a good job. likely because he doesnt know anyone here to play favorites with.

i'm gonna have to agree with gunzz on this one. not that i agree with every action he or other mods have ever taken, i do agree with everything he said on page 1. theDuke866 made some good arguments, but i think it's a "SHIT TON" more moderated because there is a "SHIT TON" more gross pictures, racism, bickering, and duplicate/parody threads. maybe the quality of posts has dropped a bit since the heyday.

now, i don't always agree with the degree of handling said racist threads, nasty pics, etc. for example it seems that racism is tolerated on a per-incident basis especially from one section to another. it seems ignorant to think that because it's not allowed in the garage, sports talk, or elsewhere that chit chat is racist friendly.

really i think that if i were a new lurker i would never join this site at this point. its just an old habit and occasionally some good things come of it like the monorail cat thread, etc.

just my $.02, carry on.

p.s. this idea is retarded.
