I love O'Brien's honesty and that he realizes we absolutely suck.

Chuck would still be talking about how we have been getting screwed or some shit.



This season is basically a wash, i just hope we can beat either ECU or UNC... i know we won't/can't pull off both

Maryland and UVA have pretty good squads....we are sure to be underdogs against them as well.

Yep, O'brien knows what the hell he is doing..wait until the start of the 2009 season when he has more of his recruits in Wolfpack uniforms....THEN we will be the SHIT!! Until then, all we can do is take it one game at a time....

When you have been a State fan long enough you'll start to realize that true greatness is always just 2 or 3 years away.

That's certainly the optimistic approach. You could also look at it as:
In one loss I saw our team play the worst half of football that I have ever personally witnessed.
In another loss I saw an offense, defense, and special teams that were far, far worse than I thought they would be going into what was already considered a sure loss.
Heck, even in our one win we seemed content to let the opposing team's offense get an 8 yard play off any time they felt like it.

Sorry. This year is another mad year. I never got upset last year because I had zero expectations and they were pretty much met. This year I thought we'd at least amount to something and it turns out we are far worse now that the defensive side of our team is also absent.

Oh well. We'll be great in CURRENT YEAR+2. Don't get me wrong, give TOB a few years to show us what he can do. I'm just a little disappointed because I thought we'd see at least a few minor immediate improvements (fewer penalties, better turnover margin) but it looks as if we've taken several steps backward.

Well, to be fair, we've at least stopped fumbling the damn ball every other carry. Now, it's just a matter of breaking in a new QB.

As far as penalties, without looking at the stats they've seemed to get slightly better.

If TOB's track record at BC is any indication, we're going to have a great football program here. After Rivers graduated, the glaring weaknesses of our program were very obvious...and they never were fixed. TOB was left with a lot of talent and speed at the skill positions, but mediocre LBers and an atrocious offensive line. If there's one thing I'm not worried about O'Brien building at NC State it's an offensive line... it really will just take time. Ya can't win the Kentucky Derby with a bunch of mules, and that's basically what our lines have become due to Amato's negligence for the position. (Also, don't underestimate the fact that we're going to a zone blocking scheme now).

I don't see how you can say this considering unc has one of the most prolific passing games in the country? Great wrs, good qb and a great coach (gotta love the unc ad making the best hire available)

We have no clue how to defend the pass or rush the passer out of this god-awful zone and if tobs track record here at ncstate is any indication we will be in for a LONG afternoon.

I'm looking forward to playing Louisville more than unc because even though their pass is better, at least they don't have a defense. <10% chance we win either of those games. I'd say FSU and UVA are our best shots at a win. Wake is probably the only other game we are capable of winning.

Also BC free of Tom O'Brien is 0 dropped passes away from their best season since tob took over.

I wasn't expecting a good year, but I was expecting a year where we are better than 2 dropped passes away from being 1-10. Looks like that might be too lofty a goal for this season. I guess I always figured a coach had enough influence to take a 3-9 team and at least improve to 4-8... especially after how bad Amato was and how good TOB has been in the past.
