"We’ve heard of baseball players trying to get into ladies’ pants but trying to get into their dresses? That’s a new one. At the opening of Touch nightclub on Thursday, Mets' pitcher John Maine approached a twentysomething club-goer and offered her several hundred dollars to try on her dress.

“It was really weird,” she told PageSix.com. “At first I didn’t believe him when he said he’s a pitcher for the Mets.”"

Quote :
"The 26-year-old is one of the top 10 starting pitchers in the National League, earning him the nickname “The Maine Man.” In September’s 13-0 shutout against the Florida Marlins, Maine pitched over seven hitless and scoreless innings, striking out 14 batters, more than any Mets starter in the past eight years.

The Virginia-born ball-hurler later approached PageSix.com and asked to test-drive our frock as well. “I’m John Maine. I pitch for the Mets! I’m a hot piece of ass!” he kept repeating. He claimed that he was on his way to a drag party later that night.

“Come on, I’ll give you $200 to try on your dress,” he begged. “Just to take a picture. It’ll be fun.”

Your Sixer respectfully declined.

Jay Horowitz, vice president of media relations for the Mets, says that it was a case of mistaken identity. “John Maine has not left the state of Virginia since the end of the baseball season on October 1. The quotes attributed to him are the work of an imposter.”

Publicists for the event say that Maine was invited to the party.
"

Lol.. what are you doing going through the paparazzi websites? Awesome... There was a Mike Cameron impersonator a while back..

I'm sure this was actually Maine though... guys seems a bit off.

How far the Mets have fallen.. they've gone from Anna Benson's boobs flopping around as Santa's partner to having John Maine be Santa and Oliver Perez his elf during the Xmas party this year

Johan is going to be a Met and I'm not sure I like it. Martinez, Gomez, Humber, Mulvey AND Guerra is a heavy price and leaves the Mets with literally NO farm system... the only block on this is Omar is reluctant to include Martinez but you have to think F-Mart will eventually be a part of this deal to get it done..

Someone god damn post in this thread. I know I have plenty of sacriders on here that could troll me at least...

Anyway, Carlos Gomez was pulled from Winter League ball yesterday. It could mean nothing or it could mean a big trade is on the way. Buster Olney on ESPN reported this morning that the Twinkies could make a decision as early as today with the Mets and the Red Sox the two teams in the Santana sweepstakes.

I would nut in my pants at work if we got Santana and kept Fernando Martinez...

Santana is not going anywhere until the trading deadline. And if he becomes a free agent, he's going to the other side of new york.

This has to be worst-case scenario for Yankees fans, huh? The best player in the game has an outside shot at ending up with the Mets or the Red Sox. Is it too late to ramp up the payroll to $300 million?

^^ lol, you can't be serious. Fernando Martinez is one of the best prospects in all of baseball. Deolis Guerra is one of the best low minors pitching prospects in all of baseball. You think getting the 30th pick in the first round plus a sandwich pick next year is better than that? Come on... Actually even with F-Mart in there they have a competitive offer. Humber, Pelfrey, Guerra, Gomez and Martinez were all on BA Top 100 prospects list the last 2 years... and Mulvey might make it this year...

^ The Yanks could have him right now. They just have to pick up the phone and say Hughes is on the table. They aren't going to do it and I don't blame them...

It doesn't guarantee anything but it certainly helps. I like the Braves and the Phillies rosters and they aren't going anywhere... but this deal makes the Mets the odds on favorites to win the NL without a doubt...

Plus keeping your top prospect and Pelfrey is a HUGE bonus. This was a no-brainer from the Mets standpoint... Bill Smith in MIN is sure to come under some heat as to why he didn't take the Yankees offer when Hughes was on the table back in December...

So the deal is still contingent on an extension being worked out. There is hope.

The only silver lining is that I'll get a chance to the guy in person. (Hopefully going 3, giving up 19 hits and 14 runs)

^^ I second that feeling.

As much as I hate to admit it, gg to the Mets. They may be selling out the future for the present, but at least they are going all in to win the World Series this year. The Braves sold out the future for a less valuable player in Tex (even though Santana wasn't that great last year, he'll be dominate in the NL).

The Braves chances in '08 just got a lot shittier. Here's hoping that some Mike Hampton type injury hits Santana.

The Mets lose a lefty in Glavine and replace him with Santana. Fuck.

Oh yeah, our resident Twins fan

NyM410 could probably tell you a little more that I could but I can copy and paste with the best of them

Quote :
"Carlos Gomez, OF: The most Major League-ready of the quartet of players landed by the Twins, Gomez only retained rookie status in 2007 because he broke a hamate bone in his left hand in July, which sidelined him for two months after he made his Major League debut in May. At 21, he was the youngest player in the National League at the time. Before his callup, Gomez had been somewhat overlooked when discussing Mets outfield prospects because of all the talk surrounding teenage sensation Fernando Martinez. But Gomez had cruised through the organization, skipping from Class A Hagerstown in 2005 to Double-A Binghamton in 2006, showing no apparent need for some time at Advanced A. He hit .281 with 41 steals in the Eastern League at age 20. He has all the tools you look for in a premier outfielder, with the speed for center and the arm for right. He was hitting .286 at Triple-A New Orleans with 17 steals before his spring promotion, and then batted .232 with 12 more swipes in 125 at-bats with the Mets before his injury. The Twins' current outfield mix features Michael Cuddyer, newly acquired Delmon Young, Jason Kubel and veteran Craig Monroe. Look for Gomez to charge right into that pack to make a claim for one of the spots.

Deolis Guerra, RHP: The 6-foot-5 Venezuelan prospect, who won't turn 19 until April, ranked just behind the apparently untouchable outfielder Fernando Martinez when it comes to Mets prospects, but he is likely to be the last to arrive in Minnesota. When he gets there, however, it should be for a nice long time. Guerra made his pro debut in stellar style in 2006 when, at age 17, he posted a 2.20 ERA at Class A Hagerstown, limiting South Atlantic League hitters to a .208 average. In '07, still at 17, he was the Opening Day starter for Class A Advanced St. Lucie and pitched in the Futures Game as well. He battled some shoulder tendinitis, which limited his innings, but posted a 4.01 ERA in 90 innings in the Florida State League with a fastball in the low-to-mid 90s and a plus changeup, which ranked as the best in the Mets' system. He continues to work on improving his curveball and refining his overall game. While he could start the season at Double-A New Britain, it is more likely that the Twins will opt to keep him back in warmer climate of Fort Myers, Fla., before sending him to the Eastern League later in the summer.

Philip Humber, RHP: With a strong spring, Humber could factor into the wide-open, but still competitive, battle for a Twins rotation spot. Drafted out of Rice University with the third-overall pick in 2004 and signed for a $3 million bonus, his pro career got off to a sluggish start as he posted a 4.99 ERA at Class A Advanced St. Lucie in 2005 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in July. He's yet to really come back in pre-surgery form, but his trademark curveball is still a plus pitch. He spent most of '07 in New Orleans, where he was 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA in 25 starts, striking out 120 batters in 139 innings. He finished the summer with three games in New York, posting a 7.71 ERA in seven innings. He is no longer the untouchable can't-miss prospect he was when he signed in '04, but at 25 years old and now two years removed from his surgery, 2008 could be a big one for him.

Kevin Mulvey, RHP: Though his name is not generally mentioned in the same breath as the elite pitching prospects in the Mets system (Guerra, Humber and Mike Pelfrey), Mulvey is no slouch either. Drafted out of Villanova in the second round with the Mets' first pick in 2006, he appeared in just a handful of games that summer before earning the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors in 2007. A Futures Game selection and Eastern League All-Star, the 22-year-old went 11-10 with a 3.32 ERA at Double-A Binghamton before finishing his season with one scoreless start at Triple-A New Orleans. Without one dominating pitch, he mixes four solid offerings highlighted by his slider with good control. He is likely to begin 2008 at Triple-A Rochester and a strong first half could keep his name on people's lips should the need for a starter arise."

I still can't get over this trade. I don't know much about the prospects, when when you have a chance to get Phil Hughes from the Yankees or Jon Lester from the RedSox I think you have to jump all over that. Kudos to the Mets for getting the Twins to bite on this. What a steal. Hate it that my Braves have to face that this season.

I'd have loved to see the look on Ryan Howard and Chase Utley's faces when they found out

and the Yankees offer of Hughes, Cabrera, Jeff Marquez and another minor leaguer was considered the best the Twins recieved...it was offered before Pettite said he would be back this year, and subsequently pulled after that

^^^ Lester isn't very good... Hughes is but Lester is a 3 or 4...

I'm still not sure why anyone had interest in Endy Chavez Melky Cabrera... he is a 4th OFer in the future...

This trade or no the Braves had no chance of beating the Mets for this year's NL East.

Ohh and another thing how about a damn salary cap so we can stop the Sox, Yanks, and Mets from simply buying their teams?
